Optix Electronic Document Management System Awarded IMAGING Magazine's
Editor's Choice Award for Excellence in Document Imaging

Flint Hill, VA - December 1, 1993 - Blueridge Technologies' Optix
Electronic Document Management System was awarded IMAGING Magazine's
coveted Editor's Choice Award. Optix is the first complete electronic
document management system that works cross platform to support both the
Macintosh and IBM-compatibles. "Optix gives you lots of tools for
electronic document management - including OCR, workflow, text search, fax
input and imaging scanning, indexing and retrieval....We give it an
Editor's Choice."

Features that IMAGING Magazine particularly liked about Optix included:

- Network Server

Speed. The Optix Network Macintosh server takes advantage of the
multitasking, multi-threaded features of Unix and the Informix SQL
database. Images can be retrieved across the network in under a second.
"The Mac server (a Quadra or Apple Workgroup Server) acts not as a Mac but
as a straight 32-bit Unix machine. It's fast."

Scanning. "Since it can do many things at once, [the Optix] server can
process six pages a SECOND - 360 [pages per minute]."

- Advanced Text Search

"Optix can search text using natural language. At the front end, enter a
query in English, just the way you speak it. At the back end, natural
language processing differentiates the meaning of words."

- Enhancements.

"Optix provides lots of other niceties not offered by [its competitors]:
single user interface, thumbnail image viewing, forms dropout / overlay
for reduced storage space, annotations, a do-it-yourself screen generator,
and Workflow."

- Price

"Optix imaging costs [under] $1,000 for a single user, standalone version.
The OCR module costs $600, text search is $2,000 - buy all three for
$3,000. A network based mulituser version costs from $75,000, including a
five concurrent user license...an Appleshare server version [of Optix
starts] at only $15,000. And you get all the same nifty goodies as the
Unix version - the software is the same."
