Apple Ships Newton Connection Kit for Windows

LAS VEGAS, Nevada--November 15, 1993--Apple Computer, Inc. today announced
that it will begin shipping the Newton Connection kit for Windows v 1.00
in the United States on November 22, 1993. The Newton Connection kit for
Windows enables Newton users to conveniently exchange information between
a Newton device and millions of Windows-based personal computers.

With the kit, users can connect their Newton device to a Windows-based PC
in order to create, view, edit, synchronize, and back up their Newton
information. The kit includes a complementary set of Newton applications
for Windows-based PCs. These applications allow users to easily create or
modify their Newton information on Windows-based PCs. Apple's "Smart
Synchronization" technology enables information to be synchronized and
updated automatically between Windows-based PCs and the Newton device when
the two are connected.

With the arrival of Newton Connection for Windows v 1.00, the Newton
platform makes a strong debut in the Windows world. The Newton's powerful
RISC processor makes the Newton highly appropriate for the Windows
environment. The Windows version of the Newton Connection kit was designed
jointly by Apple Computer and Traveling Software of Bothell (WA).

Apple introduced Newton Connection for the Macintosh v 1.00 in the United
States in September 1993, and is planning to release v 2.00 for the
Macintosh in the United States before Christmas 1993. Once Newton
Connection for Windows v 2.00 becomes available in the United States early
in 1994, subsequent versions of Newton Connection for the Windows and
Macintosh platforms will be released simultaneously, underlining Newton's
commitment to the Windows/DOS world.

Apple will offer all registered purchasers of Newton Connection for Windows
v 1.00 a free upgrade to Newton Connection for Windows v 2.00.

Newton Connection for Windows v 1.00 is expected to be available in
computer retailers, campus resellers, consumer electronics stores and K-12
institutions across the United States. The Apple price for the Newton
Connection kit for Windows v 1.00 is expected to be US$165.00.

Facts About Newton Connection for Windows

Newton Connection for Windows v 1.0 incorporates functionality similar to
that of Newton Connection for Macintosh v 1.0, which shipped throughout
the United States in September 1993.

The Newton Connection kit for Windows automatically creates a back up
version of Newton information on the hard disk of a PC for safekeeping. In
addition, it tracks previously synchronized information which may have
been deleted on the Newton device, and automatically stores it in an
archive file. Using Newton Connection, users can employ their Windows PCs
to install optional packages such as system updates and applications on
their Newton MessagePad.

The Newton Connection kit for Windows v 2.00 (formerly known as Newton
Connection Pro) is expected to be available early in 1994. Newton
Connection for Windows v 2.00 will allow users to synchronize and share
information between existing Windows applications and Newton applications,
and will enable MessagePad informatio--notes, letters, name-cards, to-do
lists and appointments--to be shared with common Windows personal
information management (PIM), word-processing, spreadsheet and database
applications. Newton Connection for Windows v 2.0 will enable users to
access and edit MessagePad information using common Windows applications.

Apple is also developing a Windows version of its Newton Toolkit developer
system in order to make it simple for developers to work in the Windows
environment. More detailed announcements will be made at the Newton
Developer Conference in Santa Clara, California on December 7-8, 1993.
