According to a news item in Electronic Design magazine, interactive TV may
be just around the corner... After four years of development, a control
box will now enable TV sets to become fully interactive, regardless of
whether they receive cable, broadcast, or satellite television
transmissions. Sitting atop any standard TV set, the Interaxx Machine from
Interaxx Television Network Inc, Miami, FL, will provide interactive
entertainment, home shopping, video games, travel, and other services. The
box will include a built-in printer for printing out tickets, merchandise
receipts, coupons, reservations and confirmations. Basically, the viewer
operated, remote controlled Interaxx Machine combines a CD-ROM, telephone
modem, printer, and digital converter with the company's patented
technology. The first TV systems will start carrying the Interaxx
Television Network in early 1994, beginning with Channel America, which
reaches 15 million homes, and Coral Springs Cable TV in Florida.

Rep. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash) has introduced a bill that would make it
