ARTISOFT ANNOUNCES FEATURES OF LANTASTIC MANAGEMENT SERVICES SOFTWARE

Standard, Advanced Software Versions To Ship

(TUCSON, AZ - December 6, 1993)- Artisoft, Inc. announced today two
versions of its new LANtastic Management Services software - an Advanced
version and a Standard version. The LANtastic Management Services
software, Standard version, offers tailored, easy-to-use management
features for smaller networks, is priced at $199 and is scheduled to begin
shipping in early calendar 1994. The LANtastic Management Services
software, Advanced version, offers sophisticated capabilities for users
with more powerful needs, is priced at $799 and is scheduled to begin
shipping later this month.

"These two versions will allow network administrators of LANtastic
environments of all sizes to take advantage of this network management
technology," commented David R. Hallmen, Artisoft's Vice President of
Sales and Marketing. "LANtastic network administrators will now have a
powerful management system at their fingertips that will support the
future growth and changing requirements of their networks."

FEATURES INCLUDED IN BOTH SOFTWARE VERSIONS

The Standard software provides easy-to-use, basic visual monitoring of
network operation, while the Advanced software takes all of the features
included in the Standard software and adds sophisticated capabilities that
allow customized reporting, alarming and network scanning. The following
features are included in both software versions: Graphical Interface

Both versions of the LANtastic Management Services software run on a
Windows-based platform. The management console, which can be run from any
non-dedicated Windows-based workstation, graphically displays information
about the entire network. Administrators will have a real-time monitoring
function that shows them how the network is performing at any given time.

An easy-to-use graphical interface with unlimited zoom-in and zoom-out
capabilities allows administrators to view the entire network or focus in
on one particular network device, such as a workstation.

Node Discovery Feature

At set-up, a node discovery feature automatically discovers network devices
such as servers, workstations and printers as it scans a network.
Administrators will have detailed information about each individual device
on the network. This feature can be periodically run in order to identify
new nodes.

Basic Alarms

The software offers pre-set alarms that will automatically notify network
administrators of specified operating problems, such as a workstation or
server going off-line. Administrators are notified of a potential problem
via colored icons that appear on their computer screen.

Reports

Trouble tickets can be generated for each alarm event that occurs. Network
data concerning the event is recorded in a file that is logged by date and
time. The cause of the alarm and the actions taken against the failure may
also be included in the trouble ticket record. Administrators can also
print reports that summarize the status of trouble tickets.

The software builds a database of activity while it monitors the network,
which includes detailed information about all aspects of the network.
Administrators can review the historical activity log, generate trouble
tickets or use the standard reports from this database to analyze their
network. The software's search function allows administrators to also
develop customized reports from this database.

Views & Icons

Icons allow administrators to organize their network in a virtually
unlimited hierarchical schematic for easy management of any portion of the
network - from one node to the entire LAN. By creating individualized
views of one network device or a group of devices, administrators can
graphically represent their networks from a global perspective down to a
single workstation.

ADVANCED SOFTWARE FEATURES

The following high-end features are unique to the LANtastic Management
Services software, Advanced version, and allow administrators to customize
the software to fit their individual requirements and more effectively
manage a larger, more powerful network.

Inventory Management

Along with the automatic node discovery feature, administrators will also
have a valuable inventory feature that details the contents of each
computer it discovers. Administrators can view information on more than 40
inventory items, including the type of software installed; the sizes of
the conventional, extended and expanded memories; the size of the hard
disk; the LAN adapter configuration; and the contents of various
user-selectable files for each PC on the network. Administrators will also
be able to easily track the number of software licenses on the network.
This inventory feature runs as users start up the network.

User-Definable Alarms & Data Gathering

The LANtastic Management Services software, Advanced version, takes the
basic alarm features and allows administrators to customize their alarm
conditions. With the powerful scripting language, administrators can
filter, forward and establish threshold alarm criteria that will
automatically define what devices to monitor, who is to be notified and
how they should be notified in the event of a potential operating problem.
For example, if a software license limit on the network exceeds a
company's legal license, administrators can be notified of the problem via
a broadcast message on the network. Remote reporting of potential problems
can also occur through electronic mail, fax, pager and dialout
capabilities. As with the Standard version of the LANtastic Management
Services software, trouble tickets can be generated for each alarm event
that occurs.

DDE Support

Another feature unique to the Advanced version of the LANtastic Management
Services software allows administrators to export data from their
customized reports to external spreadsheets or word processing
applications that support Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) for analysis or to
prepare additional activity reports.
