APPENDIX J
PREDEFINED .SET AND .KEY FILES

When you first get an applications program, you need to feel it out using
Vocal-Eyes. Does it speak too much? Maybe it doesn't speak at all. You
may need to make some adjustments in the application program such as
switching its video output from "direct screen write" to "BIOS" or the
other way around. Then you may need to make changes in Vocal-Eyes to
get the application working best for you. For a good example of this
process, refer to section 15: Integrating Vocal-Eyes and Your Application.
This uses WordPerfect as an example.

Why should every user of Vocal-Eyes have to reinvent the wheel? We
have included a few .SET, .CHR, and .KEY files on your Vocal-Eyes
master diskettes. Because the information can be updated with new .SET
and .KEY files often, we have placed all documentation on how to use
these files on the diskette.

There is a file called SETS.DOC. This file contains a list of all the .SET
and .KEY files currently supplied on your diskettes. It also will show you
where the documentation for each of the files is located on your diskette.
You can use the enclosed VIEW.COM utility to read this information. If
you wish to look at the SETS.DOC file, type the following:

VIEW SETS.DOC

Don't forget to press ENTER. Assuming your default drive and path is
where the SETS.DOC file is located, the View utility will begin displaying
the information on the screen. Of course, Vocal-Eyes will speak the
information as well. If you find a .SET file you may be interested in using,
display its documentation file in the same way. For example, to display
the enclosed WP.DOC file, type:

VIEW WP.DOC

and press ENTER. The documentation will show you how to use the
associated .SET file. The documentation file will not teach you how to
use the applications program but it will tell you everything you need to
know in order for Vocal-Eyes to work well with it.

If you have setup a .SET environment for an application we have not
included, feel free to send us the information. We would like to pass your
information on to other users. Many applications do not require much
work in order to get them to speak well. Others may take more time.
Although we cannot possibly supply .SET environments for every
applications program, we hope to supply the more "well known" ones.

Remember, with autoloading enabled, Vocal-Eyes will automatically load
the correct .SET, .KEY, and .CHR files. You may be using our supplied
environments without even knowing it. It is strongly suggested that you
look at the documentation for each .SET file. For example, we have
supplied an environment for WordPerfect 5.1. The files are:

WP.SET
WP5.SET
WP5FILE.SET
WP5REVL.SET
WP5MENU.SET
WP5SPELL.SET
WP.KEY
WP.DOC

We have also provided a custom environment for WordPerfect 6.0. These
files are:

WP.SET
WP6.SET
WP6BOX.SET
WP6COLOR.SET
WP6FILES.SET
WP6GRAM.SET
WP6GRAM2.SET
WP6HELP.SET
WP6LOOK.SET
WP6LOOKP.SET
WP6MACRO.SET
WP6MENU.SET
WP6REVL.SET
WP6SPELL.SET
WP6TAB.SET
WP6THES.SET
WP6TMPA.SET
WP6TMPB.SET
WP6TMPC.SET
WP.KEY
WP.DOC

The .DOC file is a standard ASCII file describing some special keys you
can use to get certain things to speak. There are other environments
aside from WordPerfect. Please read the file SETS.DOC for a complete
up-to-date listing.
