					Simson's Charity
			In the Will of John Simson Parson of St Olave's
			in Harte Street London dated the 24th November 1632
			is as follows
			  More I do give unto the poore of the Parish of
			Brikelsea in Essex where I was borne two and fiftie
			shillings a yeare for ever whereof twentysix shillings
			shall be paid at the Feast of the blessed Virgin Mary
			and twentie six shillings at the Feast of St Michaell
			these payments to be made to the Vicar and Churchwardens
			of the parish of Brickelsea aforesaid the first payment
			to begin at the first of the two feasts before named that
			shall first fall out after my decease and so to be
			continued from Feast to Feast for ever toward the reliefe
			of twelve poore people with bread weeklie as it hath
			bene already since the year 1618 unto this present yeare
			1632 and I will the foresaid twelve poore people of
			brickelsea to be appointed and nominated by the
			Vicar Deputie and Assistants of the foresaid parish of
			Brickelsea for ever more I doe give unto the Churchwardens
			and Overseers of the poore aforesaid or to any two of them
			all the power that lyeth in me to distraine uppon my
			lands in Kirbie in the Sooken in Essex late in the
			occupation of Will Beale or his assignes for the
			recoverie of this fiftie two shillings or soe much as
			shall at any time be unpaid contrarie to the true

			January 30th 1791 / Aged 31 years
			A long affliction did my life attend
			But time & patience brought it to an end
			To save my life physicians were in vain
			Till Christ did please to free me from my pain
			Also of the above / James Weller
			Formerly of this parish / Who died Feb 1 1800 / Aged 55 years
			The Lord on whom I did depend / Beheld my careful heart
			And when when His will and Pleasure was
			Released me from my smart

			Monument to Nicholas Magens in rococo style, huge cornucopia,
			anchor and chain, central globe showing California ships,
			angel and cherub.
		
			To the memory of Nicholas Magens esqr; late of the
			City of London Merchant and Lord of the Manors of
			Brightlingsea and Moverons / Who departed this life
			The 18th day of August 1764 / In the 67th year of his age
			This monument was erected / By his disconsolate widow
			In Testimony of her Affection to a most indulgent Husband
			A most sincere and generous Friend / And
			A truly valuable and good man
			His extensive Knowledge in Commerce
			Renders his Death and Public / As well as a private loss.
			His Writings / Eminently display his shining Abilities
			And will perpetuate his name / To the latest Posterity.
			Sacred also to the memory of Mrs Elizabeth Magens
			Widow of Nicholas Magens esq / Who died 30th August 1779 Aged 66
			Her benevolent Disposition and extensive
			Charity endeared Her to all around her and

			Underneath is deposited the mortal part of
			The Honble Henrietta Cecilia Dorrien Magens wife of
			Magens Dorrien Magens Esqr Lord of the Manor of
			Brightlingsea and of Moverons in this parish, she was
			Grand daughter of William, Earl Talbot and daughter of
			His only surviving Issue and Heiress Baroness Dynevor
			Widow of the late Right Honble George Rice
			of Dynevor Castle in the County of Carmarthen
			By her surviving family friends, and acquaintance
			She will ever be remembered with affection, esteem,
			And respect; and those who deeply and tenderly
			Mourn her loss are consoled by the hope that her
			Piety and benevolence on Earth may be crowned
			With a blessed immortality in Heaven
			She died at Hammerwood Lodge in the County of
			Sussex on the 17th December 1829 at the age
			Of 71 years
