Jimmy Carter and His Three Rifles: In an op-ed piece to the New York Times, President Jimmy Carter hasn't only his history wrong, he has his Constitution wrong. It is not the NRA, which insists on gun ownership, it is the Constitution's Bill Of Rights and the Founders who desired that we are the sovereign and not the public servants, past or present. I know that will get me intro trouble, but we do not challenge the authority we granted our servants, it is they who challenge our authority as the sovereign over them. The ad presents images of the pope, President Ronald Reagan, Mother Teresa and President George Washington as those who would be suspected of terrorism under the DHS report guidelines... The legislation would help police investigate illegal firearms, prohibit felons from buying guns, require child-proof devices on guns, and banning advanced firearms and ammunition used to kill police officers, according to the Assembly. A number of Republicans, who are in the minority in the Assembly, are speaking against the bills... http://polhudson.lohudblogs.com/2009/04/28/assembly-passing-series-of-bills-on-guns/ --- Time for Civil Obedience in Wisconsin: ...Civil obedience is the expectation that citizens follow the law and those citizens expect others to do the same, particularly law enforcement officers. Law abiding citizens expect the police to understand the laws and to act lawfully. This is a very minimal expectation of citizens for the police to meet. Citizens will not tolerate the police abusing their "police powers" and treating citizens who do absolutely nothing wrong like a violent or dangerous criminal, by drawing their guns and pointing them at citizens and threatening citizens with death or great bodily harm.... http://www.examiner.com/x-5103-Wisconsin-Gun-Rights-Examiner~y2009m4d27-The-time-for-civil-obediance-is-now?cid=exrss-Wisconsin-Gun-Rights-Examiner --- Questions for Hampton University: ...University officials will have more to say at a press conference today at 4:00 pm EST. Here are some questions I bet won't be asked by our good friends the "Authorized Journalists": How effective are texting, emailing and praying at stopping an on-scene active shooter situation? You say the "first responders [were] swift, professional and effective." Seeing as how the first responders were the victims, and the second responders prevented nothing but could only react after the damage had been done, why wouldn't it be more effective for people to have a chance to save themselves from becoming casualties in the first place? ... http://www.examiner.com/x-1417-Gun-Rights-Examiner~y2009m4d27-Hampton-University-shooting-highlights-effective-gun-policy --- Oops, Wrong Apartment: A woman, awakened by the sound of someone removing the screen from her bedroom window, got out of her bed at 1 a.m. Friday, walked to her son's room and quietly woke him. "She said, 'Snigg get up,'" the son said in an interview later Friday morning. "I got up, grabbed my gun and went to the corner there by her room," he said, standing at the door of the apartment, on the bottom floor of the last in a row of Spanish-style buildings in the Granada Apartments on Chicot Road. It was dark in the apartment, but the window was backlit, Snigg said. He heard the window go up and saw a man coming in. "He stuck his hand under and pulled the blinds back, the blinds and the curtain," he said. "And he eased in like he was attempting to come in. "I fired two shots, then he ran off," Snigg said... The letter says Mr. Pacelle once said to the Associated Press: "If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would." He told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, "Our goal is to get sport hunting in the same category as cock fighting and dog fighting. Our opponents say hunting is a tradition. We say traditions can change," according to the letter... Mr. Lawson said many Americans have little real understanding of the Humane Society of the United States, which has about 11 million "supporters," and don't know it is not affiliated with local humane societies, animal shelters, or animal care and control agencies... http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/limbaugh_animals_guns/2009/04/28/208166.html --- From AzCDL: HCM 2009 is scheduled to be heard in the House Military Affairs and Public Safety committee at 9:00 am on Wednesday, April 29, 2009. In January 2009, U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (D-IL) introduced House Resolution 45 (Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009) in the U.S. Congress. This Act prohibits a person from possessing a firearm unless that person has been issued a firearm license. In order to be issued a firearm license, a person must submit to the U.S. Attorney General specified information, including a current photograph and thumb print of the applicant, along with a certificate attesting to the completion of a written firearms examination. Licenses are good for five years and may be renewed. HCM 2009 is a House Memorial that encourages the U.S. Congress to oppose the passage of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009, or any similar legislation, that would impinge on the individual right of every American to keep and bear arms. It also requires the Arizona Secretary of State to transmit copies of this Memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and each member of Congress from Arizona. HCM 2009 was introduced by Representative Judy Burges and has 57 co-sponsors. We urge everyone to contact the members of the House MAPS committee and politely urge them to support HCM 2009 when it is heard in their committee on Wednesday, April 29, 2009.
