Likely AG Nominee No Supporter of RKBA: Deputy Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. today held a press conference to urge Members of Congress to adopt reasonable gun legislation. He issued the following statement. "Good Afternoon. We are here today because the House of Representatives has begun debate on legislation that can make a critical difference to law enforcement, and to the safety of all Americans... http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/1999/June/257dag.htm Napolitano May Get Another Cabinet Position: [Arizona] Gov. Janet Napolitano isn't President-elect Barack Obama's choice for U.S. attorney general, according to a host of media reports issued Tuesday. But she may still be tapped for a Cabinet post in the new administration, albeit likely not one of the prestige of attorney general... The Cabinet post most frequently cited by influential Arizona Democrats, however, is that of secretary of Homeland Security. The position, held by Michael Chertoff, includes aspects of national defense, emergency response and border security... (Arizona gun owners can't wait to get rid of "J No," who has vetoed several important bills to restore aspects of the RKBA in this state.) http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2008/11/19/20081119napolitano-ag1119.html --- NRA's LaPierre Urges Vigilance: Historic victories for gun rights occurred in 2008, but the fight for firearm freedoms must continue to preserve the Second Amendment, National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre told a crowd on Monday at Ashland University. Despite the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down a handgun ban in Washington D.C., that affirmed the right to keep and bear arms, there is a battle for firearms ownership in America, LaPierre said. He urged NRA members and firearms owners to stay vigilant while pressures mount domestically and internationally for them to disarm... http://www.times-gazette.com/news/article/4468640 --- The Beat Goes On: ...Oh, please. What we're seeing in the gun stores this week is not a nation arming itself for revolt, but Americans in a thoroughly defensive mode, stocking up now to avoid the Democratic gun bans they believe are coming. What many Americans fear is that Barack Obama - aided by congressional allies like Senators Dianne Feinstein of California and Charles Schumer of New York - will revert to his true, pre-campaign nature come Jan. 20, and once more move to take away Americans' guns... http://www.lewrockwell.com/suprynowicz/suprynowicz104.html --- The View from the Left: ...President-elect Obama has consistently supported common sense gun laws in the U.S. Senate and in the Illinois State Senate, along with supporting an individual right to own a gun for self-defense in the home. Vice President-Elect Biden, one of the original authors of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, has been a leader in gun violence prevention throughout his distinguished career. The Brady Campaign's choice was clear. In the middle of October, Jim and Sarah Brady and the Brady Campaign issued a strong endorsement of the Obama-Biden ticket... (The "common sense" gun laws that Big Brother supported in the Illinois are precisely the reason that he was so vigorously opposed by the RKBA community and why even some who voted for him are now scrambling to buy firearms and ammunition.) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-helmke/we-win-they-lose-now-lets_b_144743.html --- On the Other Hand...: November 19 is National Ammo Day. It is a nationwide BUYcott of ammunition. You buy ammunition. 100 Rounds a person. The goals of Ammo Day: The goal of National Ammo Day is to empty the ammunition from the shelves of your local gun store, sporting goods, or hardware store and put that ammunition in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Make your support of the Second Amendment known - by voting with your dollars! There are an estimated 75 MILLION gun owners in the United States of America. If each gun owner or Second Amendment supporter buys 100 rounds of ammunition, that's 7.5 BILLION rounds in the hands of law-abiding citizens! The gun/ammunition manufacturers have been taking the brunt of all the frivolous lawsuits, trying to put these folks out of business. Well, not if we can help it! And we CAN help it by buying ammunition on November 19! http://www.ammoday.com/index.php/about/353/ --- Appeal Filed in Atlanta Airport Dispute: GCO has filed its brief in support of its appeal in the Atlanta Airport gun case. GCO sued Atlanta in federal district court because of Atlanta's threats to arrest people lawfully carrying firearms in the Atlanta Airport. The district court granted Atlanta's motion for judgment on the pleadings, finding that GCO had not introduced sufficient evidence that HB 89 (which decriminalized carrying firearms "on public transportation" for GFL holders) applies to airports (overlooking the fact that a party is neither permitted nor required to introduce evidence in opposition to a motion for judgment on the pleadings). GCO has appealed the case to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit... http://www.georgiacarry.org/cms/2008/11/14/gco-files-airport-brief-on-appeal/ --- Chicago Suburb to Reconsider Handgun Ban: Winnetka officials could decide to amend the city's ban on handguns at a town meeting tonight. In September, three Winnetka residents and the National Rifle Association sued the village, stating that the ban violated their rights protected by the Second Amendment. The plaintiffs claimed they were "subjected to irreparable harm in that they were unable to obtain handguns and ammunition to protect themselves in their homes ... subjecting them to endangerment from criminal intruders." If the village amended its weapons ordinance, handguns in homes would be permitted, but firing guns and gun sales would still be prohibited... http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/Winnetka-May-Repeal-Gun-Ban.html --- Pennsylvania Soccer Mom to Sue for Legal Fees: The Lebanon woman who had her handgun permit revoked after bringing a holstered gun to her daughter's soccer game said that she plans to sue Lebanon County. Meleanie Hain is suing for the money she spent defending herself in court. A judge reinstated her gun permit last month after it was revoked by the Lebanon County sheriff. Hain said that she wants to make sure no one else's rights are violated... http://www.wgal.com/news/18005180/detail.html --- Oops, Wrong Store: Some would-be robbers picked the wrong shop owner to rob in Brooklyn on Monday night. Even though he was unarmed, the shop owner, identified by neighbors as Youssouf Drame, 35, wrested a gun away from one of the men and fatally shot two of them. The police say that two other suspects - it's unclear whether they entered the store - are at large. Mr. Drame, the owner of the variety store at 1051 Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights, was also shot multiple times during the struggle and remained in critical condition at Kings County Hospital Center on Tuesday, the police said... (It sounds as if Mr. Drame might have fared better is he had had his own gun, a fairly difficult option to exercise leagally in New York City.) http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/19/nyregion/19robbery.html?_r=1&ref=nyregion&oref=slogin --- Oops, Wrong House: A man sent suspects running after firing a shot from his 12-gauge shotgun to end an attempted burglary overnight. It happened at about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday night near 45th and South Evanston. The victim told police his estranged wife and ex-girlfriend came to his home with two unknown men. The victim says his wife broke through the front window and the two men kicked in the front door. The man retreated to his bedroom and got out his shotgun and fired one shot through the front room wall. All of the suspects ran away from the scene. There were no injuries reported and no arrests have been made. http://www.ktul.com/news/stories/1108/569233.html --- Oops, Wrong Truck: The clerk warned Alejandro Salinas about the suspicious men who had been hanging out in front of the convenience store for the past hour. He told Salinas to be careful as he went back out to his Chevrolet Z-71 pickup truck, that he had just filled at the Aziz Convenience Store about 11 a.m. Saturday. Salinas walked out to his truck and hopped in. But before he could close the door, 18-year-old Hector Severo Ramos was holding a .25-caliber pistol at Salinas' neck, said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviņo. "He says 'Get out of the truck. I'm going to take it and I'm going to kill you," Treviņo said of Ramos. Salinas told the gunman to calm down; they could work things out. Then he pushed Ramos' pistol away, pulled out his own pistol and fired two 9 mm bullets into Ramos' chest... http://www.themonitor.com/articles/shot_19729___article.html/attempted_carjacker.html --- Oops, Wrong Samaritan: A 60-year-old Stockton man remains in critical condition in an area hospital after he was shot several times early Sunday by a neighbor trying to intervene in a domestic violence attack... Once inside the woman's home, the neighbor saw Doucet holding the woman by her hair and raising his hand with the gun in it, according to the report. The neighbor told Doucet several times to stop. Doucet allegedly turned the gun on the neighbor and fired once, hitting the man. The neighbor returned fire with his own gun, hitting Doucet several times in the upper body. The woman and neighbor were treated for non-life threatening wounds and Doucet was taken to an area hospital and underwent surgery for his wounds... http://www.recordnet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081110/A_NEWS02/81110009/-1/A_NEWS -- Stephen P.
