Unintended Consequence Of Heller?: The anti-gunners of the Loony Left have painted themselves into a corner with their court case. By taking an appeal all the way to the United States Supreme Court, and basing an argument on the interpretation of a key tenet of the Constitution, the anti-gun crowd in DC Metro Government has opened to door for their own demise. How? According to the very Constitution that they are attempting to redefine, there is no such thing as a DC Metro Government. Under the Constitution (Article I, Section 8, Paragraph 16), it is the duty of Congress to "exercise exclusive legislation in all cases whatsoever, over such district..." The Founders of this country were highly intelligent men, skilled in linguistics. The fact that they used the terms "exclusive," "in all cases" and "whatsoever" all in the same clause showed that there was no ambiguity in their emphasis of who was in charge of the District of Columbia. Under the Constitution, there is no such thing as a DC Metro Government. Therefore, there can be no such thing as a "mayor" to bring such a lawsuit, and no such thing as a "DC gun ban." http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/kovach/080107 --- Demand Low For Kansas CCHL's: More than 11,000 Kansans have applied for concealed-carry gun permits since the law went into effect a year ago - far fewer than the 20,000 that had been expected. The Wichita Eagle reported that officials said there haven't been any problems with the law, but gun enthusiasts have mixed feelings about what has been accomplished. At a Wichita gun show on Sunday, Brian Newlin said he doesn't see much of a reason to apply for a permit because he can legally carry a firearm in his car already. Another man at the show said the application process can deter some people from applying for a permit. (Arizona, a state where unlicensed open carry is still legal, saw applications double when the training mandate was reduced from 16 to eight hours.) http://www.kmbc.com/news/14992265/detail.html --- Georgia County Relents On SSN's: GCO has reached a settlement with the Cobb County Probate Court in a lawsuit brought by GCO in federal court over the requirement to provide SSNs when applying for a GFL. In the terms of the settlement, Cobb County will be prohibited from requesting SSNs of any applicant, will be required to expunge GCO members' SSNs from their records, and will be required to pay GCO's attorney's fees. http://www.georgiacarry.org/cms/2007/11/07/gco-settles-federal-lawsuit-with-cobb-county-probate/ --- New York Likely To License Muzzle-Loaders: New York has some of the toughest gun control laws on the books, but a new measure being debated in the state assembly would mandate that people who want to buy muzzle-loading pistols or muskets get a permit for "antique firearms." According to State Assembly Bill A09543, introduced by Assemblyman Michael Gianaris (D-Queens) on Nov. 30, the measure would eliminate the exemption of antique firearms from regulation and licensing. http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewNation.asp?Page=/Nation/archive/200801/NAT20080108a.html --- Clerk Cleared In Shooting Of Robber: A 7-Eleven clerk was justified in shooting a knife-wielding robber on Christmas, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. said Monday. Kaelin Weber, 24, shot Lawrence Davis, 20, at the Ingram convenience store after Davis jumped the counter and slashed him...Zappala made a similar determination in August, saying clerk Walter Wetzel Jr., 58, of Mt. Washington acted in self-defense when he fatally shot Raymond Crawford, who was trying to rob the Beechview BP gas station at gunpoint in July. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/s_546285.html --- Rule Five Reminder: In a freak hunting accident, a Baytown man was killed over the weekend when his dog stepped on his loaded shotgun, triggering a discharge that penetrated his truck's tailgate and then struck him, officials said. Perry Alvin Price III was hunting on a lease near Stowell in Chambers County Saturday and had shot down a goose but had not seen where it landed, sheriff's investigators said. The 46-year-old math teacher from Baytown's Robert E. Lee High School then put his shotgun in the back of his truck and was about to open the tailgate to release his tracking dog when the shotgun fired, investigators said. The blast struck Price in the thigh.
