The City of New Orleans revealed they have not returned any firearms, as they have yet to set up a return process. http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/Releases.aspx?ID=7468 --- If At First You Don't Succeed...: Frustrated with their failure to sue the firearm industry out of existence, NYC officials now seek to accomplish similar goals with fines. Of note, is the concept of a handgun being designed to be fired with one hand. Aside from the decades-old paradigm shift in this regard, when will they decide than handguns with horizontal foregrips, such as Thompson-Center pistols, are also AOW's? http://communitydispatch.com/artman/publish/article_4560.shtml --- More Hysteria - From California: It's not earthquakes or ruptures of the levees on the Sacramento River that threaten California. It's a "loophole" in the state's ban on cosmetically impaired firearms that is allowing people to legally assemble rifles with receivers for semi-automatic AR-15 and AK variants, so long as they do not add features such as pistol grips. http://www.recordnet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060410/NEWS01/604100333 --- Accidental Shooting? An off-duty Los Angeles sheriff's deputy fatally shot a Marine Corps Reserve buddy in the head as the two returned from a night of drinking. (One factor that contributed to this shooting appears to be that the deputy was carrying his handgun in his hand. I can recall when LASD transitioned from revolvers to Beretta 92F's and a great many deputies did not purchase appropriate off-duty holsters for the larger guns.) http://www.dailybulletin.com/news/ci_3692234 http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-deputy11apr11,1,5586682.story?coll=la-headlines-california --- From NRA-ILA: Arizona Self-Defense Legislation Needs Your Help! Senate Bill 1145, the "Castle Doctrine" legislation sponsored by Senator Timothy Bee (D-30), passed Senate by a unanimous vote of 28-0 with a critically important amendment. However, it is now in serious danger in the House of Representatives. Your help is needed! Senate Bill 1145 has two components. One is Castle Doctrine, which justifies any use of force necessary if you presume you are in danger of serious bodily harm within your home and/or occupied vehicle. The second component, the essential amendment, is the return of the burden of proof in self-defense cases to the state, so law-abiding citizens who are forced to actually use their firearms for self-defense will not be wrongfully convicted or financially devastated by costs associated with their legal defense. Arizona is one of only two states in the country that places the burden of proof in self-defense cases on the individual citizen (Ohio is the other). In effect, citizens who are forced by an attacker to act in self-defense are presumed guilty until they prove their innocence in court by a preponderance of the evidence. This is contrary to the basic foundation of the American justice system -- a person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Within the next few days, self-defense opponents will offer an amendment on the House floor that strips this essential provision out of the bill. This cannot be allowed to happen! Your two state Representatives must hear from you as soon as possible! If you need help identifying your two State Representatives please use the following link http://tinyurl.com/bmfwn. The general phone number for the Arizona House of Representatives (602) 926-4221. Please contact your two state representatives and request that they oppose the floor amendment that will strip the burden of proof provision from the SB 1145.
