I urge you to vote for HB 2074. HB 2074 eliminates the training requirement for Concealed Weapons (CCW) permit renewal. Arizona is one of the few shall-issue CCW permit states that require training for permit renewal. Almost all of the other 37 shall-issue states do not require renewal training and they are not experiencing any problems. Arizona will not be the exception when HB 2074 is enacted. Contrary to assumptions, there is no correlation between mandatory training and permit holder conduct. Ten states have no training requirements at all. Two of these, Indiana and Pennsylvania, have about three-quarters of a million active permits and have revocation rates that are comparable, if not better than, states with training requirements. Elimination of the renewal training requirement will result in an increase in CCW renewals and generate more State revenue from renewal fees.
