Paintball vs. Simunitions: Chris Ewens, list member and fellow 
instructor in northern California, sent an explanation of why the 
Canadian soldiers in yesterday's item went to rented paintball guns when 
they lacked adequate protective gear to use their usual Simunitions:

When I researched Simunitions versus the Real Action Markers paintball 
handguns that I decided on for use in my advanced courses, I remember 
that the Simunitions was a higher velocity.  The masks used for 
paintball are not allowed by Simunitions to be used with their system.  
The paintball masks are only rated for 350 feet per second max.

The main reason I picked the RAM .43 caliber paintball handguns is that 
Simunitions is real expensive to use.  Just to buy into the system is 
about $5000 plus expensive ammunition, versus $1000 plus inexpensive 
paintballs.  Wanting to keep my course affordable for the working man, I 
chose the RAM guns.  They look and work like Glocks, and are accurate at 
the distances that I use them.
