Batch optimisation of photos available? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 0xKaishakunin · 2023-12-31 12:30 So I would like to digitise several photo albums (b/w from the 1930s onwards, coloured post cards from the 40s and so on). I got access to an iPhone 13 via my job, which is the best camera available for me. I know there are photo scanner apps available for iOS and Android, but I don't want to install them for privacy reasons. Is there any programme available that could optimise the digital images in batch and without much interaction from me? I know I could do so manually with The Gimp, but my knowledge of photo manipulation tends towards zero. Some of the mobile phone apps can use multiple digital images to fuse them into one high quality version, which would be lovely. I am pretty comfortable with the command line, as I have been using ImageMagick to convert/resize JPGs for decades. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Malossi167 · 2023-12-31 16:00 I am not really sure what you want to optimize. The automatic mode of smartphones is so good that you cannot really improve anything, especially automated. If there was an automated option to get better picture the phone would already use them, don't you think? >Some of the mobile phone apps can use multiple digital images to fuse them into one high quality version, which would be lovely. Do you talk about HDR pictures? This makes sense when you have a challenging light situation but when you just scan pictures not so much. Do you not have some flatbed scanner? Even a 10+ year old one is usually good enough to scan all the detail of a picture and it does so without distortions and uneven lighting.
