I'm running a funny experiment with my free web-analytics reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rusl1 · 2023-12-31 10:02 Hey everyone! Two years back, I created a little web analytics tool for my side projects and I called Faenz. It's open source and self- hostable, available on [GitHub](https://github.com/a-chris/faenz). I've recently given it an update and came up with the idea of creating a demo version that's accessible to everyone. How does it work? You can add your own website, blog or e-commerce site and keep track of the visits it receives. Your website stats will be visible to others, and you'll get to check out everyone else's stats too. You won't be allowed to edit/delete a website, you should reach out to me for that. I find it to be a fun experiment to see how people handle SEO or just to discover some cool new websites :) The demo is available here [https://faenz.acmecorp.dev/](https://faenz.acmecorp.dev/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-31 10:21 Why not allow delete/edit via DNS TXT confirmation? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rusl1 · 2023-12-31 10:25 I've never delved so deeply into DNS, I'll take a look :) So, I should ask the user for a code and check that code matches the DNS TXT? Isn't the DNS TXT visible to anyone? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-31 10:28 Yes, yes it is visible to anyone and like this they can proof they own the domain. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rusl1 · 2023-12-31 10:37 That's a great advice, I think it's the same way Google ensures you own the domain when adding it to the Google Console. Let's see if I manage to implement it in the next few days 😁 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- titrovo_casa · 2023-12-31 10:48 Where are you hosting it at the moment? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rusl1 · 2023-12-31 10:56 It's running on my VPS 1 GB RAM 1 CPU, togheter with other 6 Rails projects 😂 But I'm planning to host it on Render for free if people like the idea
