I need a specific git setup reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PunishedRaion · 2023-12-31 03:02 Hey guys, let me explain my needs in hope you guys can give me a suggestion. I run https://IRIXNet.org. recently a host mistakenly terminated a server I ran gitea on and I lost most of my server data, but not the repositories. So I'm setting up a new server once again but I'm trying to figure out what we can use for this. I am running NetBSD which has some caveats compared to GNU/Linux but other than certain applications and docker files not being available it really doesn't make a difference. What am I needing? I need a git application that is practical for multiple users to upload and host their projects. It doesn't necessarily need to do things like issue tracking or whatever. It just needs to be somewhat more capable than say, cgit where the configuration and features offered in the base package are a little too basic. It needs to be able to run over both HTTP and HTTPS. I usually accomplish this by setting the server name to //domain.com and it works effectively, but on gitea it causes a nasty error message that I can't get to go away about the root URL mismatching. We need non-SSL access, full stop. That's not negotiable. There's no way for us to get SSL on some of our older systems and while browsing is not necessarily possible they can still pull the files down without issue. I cannot use Java applications, unfortunately. OpenJDK requires X11 to build and I cannot/will not install that in the server. If you know of any application that's not going to cause us headache with false error messages let me know. We are running nginx as our webserver. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vivekkhera · 2023-12-31 03:50 What’s wrong with running gitea in your netbsd box? I run it on FreeBSD and it works just great. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Few-Foundation-9553 · 2023-12-31 12:42 Can‘t you just use Gitea with a reverse proxy in front, which does HTTP and HTTPS to your Gitea instance? So Gitea should not see, if the client uses HTTPS? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PunishedRaion · 2023-12-31 13:30 I'd rather not. This causes all sorts of session related issues.
