Easiest Backup Solution - docker with volumes plus local system data reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Omgfunsies · 2023-12-30 23:49 I'm looking for a solution that will let me backup multiple linux based hosts including docker, databases (running on docker), docker volumes and system data. The goal is to make this easy to implement and also monitor preferably from a webui I'd like to be able to ensure I can recover all data and maybe even be able to recover the full OS from a backup. I've seen people mention borg as an option but im curious what everyone else is using. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The actual server would be hosted locally and running ideally on a syn .ology nas ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eirikr70 · 2023-12-31 00:05 You won't find any all-in-one to for that purpose. You might use Duplicati for the data (I don't use Borg so I can't tell) and Timeshift for the system. But the solutions for the databases are related to the apps you use. For instance Vaultwarden and Immich have dedicated database backup strategies and you'd better follow them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lazyzyf · 2023-12-31 02:23 kopia ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CupofDalek · 2023-12-31 03:23 I decided to go jank and deploy a linux vm within hyper-v Within the VM is all my hosted data I made a powershell script that is on a scheduled task every 4 days @ 4 am The script stops the vm, exports it to a cache drive, then starts it back up. After that, it will then take the exported data, archive it, transfer to long term storage, and then it does some cleanup operations to retain only the latest 6 versions. It also saves a log of the process and retains the latest 12 logs The script also has a condition where if it fails anywhere in the above process, it does a web request to a canaryfiles URL and I get an email letting me know my backup failed Even with this, I check on it once in a while to make sure its doing good ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KubeGuyDe · 2023-12-31 07:14 When I last used borg needed a borg server on the receiving end, which is quite limiting in my opinion. So I switched to restic and I'm quite satisfied. https://github.com/restic/restic Solid encryption, snapshots, dedublication, various receivers like ssh, s3 or Google driver and good docs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FeedSilver9062 · 2023-12-31 15:22 I use restic and backup that way. I created different repositories for docker, local, and different mounts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RedVelocity_ · 2023-12-31 21:37 I use Duplicati to backup my Docker folder from the server to a cloud drive. Helped me a lot where my Primary VPS got accidentally deleted!
