File Hosting Recommendation besides Nextcloud reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sevynz13 · 2023-12-30 22:55 I am running Nextcloud and cannot get it to perform good. I'm over it. I've spent days messing with config files and server tuning. I will put no more time into it. Could I get some recommendations on a self hosted file hosting software? I tried SeaFile and liked it but it requires the use of libraries and I need to be able to share my existing drive and folder structure. Requirements: The lighter weight the better Just need file hosting Must have link sharing Must be able to point to existing drive and data and not mess up folder structure Thank you all!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eirikr70 · 2023-12-30 23:10 To follow your requirements and strictly your requirements, I would recommend [Samba](https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/samba-introduction). If you need external access to your share, you can set up a vpn. It is by far the lightest and the most secure, although not the most user- friendly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sevynz13 · 2023-12-30 23:13 Thank you but I need user friendly. The people I am sharing with are not going to connect via VPN. I need a shareable/clickable link. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nintenuendo_ · 2023-12-30 23:16 I mean I just use filebrowser, simple and works great! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eirikr70 · 2023-12-30 23:25 Then as proposed by u/Nintenuendo_, Filebrowser may be a good choice. Certainly much lighter than NextCloud. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sevynz13 · 2023-12-30 23:28 >Filebrowser Never heard of that before but at first glance it looks promising. Thank you! Gonna spin it up now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sevynz13 · 2023-12-30 23:31 I have a question about it. I am messing with the demo and I hit the share button and see that I have to pick a share duration. Can you share infinitely on the self hosted? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nintenuendo_ · 2023-12-30 23:40 Yup! You could just enter [something like this](https://i.imgur.com/REnC7KR.png) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sevynz13 · 2023-12-31 01:35 I have links to certain things that are posted on a discord server and don't want to make accounts for everyone on the server nor do I want them to have access to the root share. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Miceros · 2023-12-31 02:39 Try filerun from filerun.com. I’ve been running it for years now without issues and it has everything you are looking for and more. Complement it with Cloudflare and you for yourself a great solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Darkchamber292 · 2023-12-31 07:06 Can 2nd FileRun. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hereisjames · 2023-12-31 14:59 There's also Seafile. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sevynz13 · 2023-12-31 15:33 My whole file system is backed up, so that's covered. Thank you though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PaddyStar · 2023-12-31 16:13 There is no docker compose where image can be rendered for preview and other plugins. It’s all behind paywall I think ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Miceros · 2023-12-31 17:41 Yeah I see they discontinued the free version maybe cuz the demand. I’m still grandfathered into the free version though.
