Fireshare - A simple solution to self hosting and sharing your videos / game clips via unique links reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Shane75776 · 2023-12-30 20:41 It's been about a year since I last shared this tool that I built in order to easily share my game clips. I thought I would share it again for those who may not know about it and could find it useful. **How does it work?** You provide Fireshare with a video folder via a docker volume mount. Fireshare then routinely scans that folder for newly added videos and they show up in the web app for you to watch and share. If you upload a video, that video is immediately scanned in and available for you to share. ###**Main Features** 1. Simple. Easy to use. No complicated setup or features. 2. Share your videos via uniquely generated links. If you delete a video, and then re-add it the same unique link will be generated for it. 3. Videos can be set to public or private. Private videos can only be seen by sharing a link. Public videos will show up in the web apps interface for all visitors to see. 4. Upload capabilities (both public or private) 5. Mobile UI Support 6. Supports h264 encoded mp4, mov, webm (h265 will work if the browser being used to watch it supports h265) 7. Open Graph link support 8. LDAP Support 9. Lossless quality 10. Unique view counting ###**Installation** 1. Use and modify the provided Docker Compose file. 2. Unraid server? Install in one click from the Unraid app tab. ###**Downsides** 1. No transcoding allows for lossless quality but does mean that you need to be aware of your upload speeds. If your videos bitrate exceed your upload speed people will deal with buffering issues. This also means if your users download speed is not fast enough for the bitrate of your video, they will have to buffer. 2. It's completely on the server owner to encode their videos in such a way their upload speed can support them. **Why isn't their transcoding support?** 1. This is something I want to eventually add, but in an effort to follow my rule of keeping things simple I've opted out of adding it for the time. 2. To properly add transcoding I would need to allow GPU accelerated transcoding. 3. It also complicates the setup for the average user, often times people don't understand that you need good hardware to have fast reliable transcoding. 4. Fireshare is meant to be a "clip" sharing tool. Not a full media sharing replacement like Plex or Jellyfin. ## Check it out for yourself ____ [Fireshare Demo Site](https://v.fireshare.net) [Fireshare GitHub](https://github.com/ShaneIsrael/fireshare) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- davidnburgess34 · 2023-12-30 23:16 I made a video about this back in September of 2022. Maybe I should take another look :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LibMike · 2023-12-30 23:45 Very cool. Awesome little app! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Doctor0710 · 2023-12-31 20:01 I've been using this for a while with my friends to share recorded and edited gameplay videos. Quick, easy to use, lightweight, very much satisfied with it.
