Easiest way to mount Paperless folder storage to Windows PC? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- notdoreen · 2023-12-30 19:18 I'm running a paperless ngx docker container on an ubuntu vm and it works great for uploading + dragging and dropping files into it. I used a Portainer template to deploy the app. I would love to access the paperless document folder from my windows pc and add files directly to it instead of having to go to the paperless web ui. I found a setting via the web ui that allows me to create a storage path (not sure if this is the right way) and I'm unsuse how to add a windows storage path to this docker container running on ubuntu server. What I'm envisioning is either mounting 'My Documents' folder to Paperless and having it be the main storage for documents, so that anything added to this folder ends up in paperless, or doing this with a shared SMB folder on a windows server VM. I'm not quite sure how to approach this. Any assistance will be appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-30 19:30 Windows Server Core VM as file server. Mount volume via CIFS into paperless-ngx. Share folder via SMB to your Windows client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SmashLanding · 2023-12-30 19:31 Smb is pretty easy to set up. Tons of tutorials like [this](https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-set-up-quick-and- easy-file-sharing-with-samba/) you can do it with a few commands. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- New_d_pics · 2023-12-30 20:15 I've yet to launch a Windows server container, what other resources/amenities are worth running on a headless? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- notdoreen · 2023-12-30 20:46 Thanks. I already have a couple Windows SMB shares on my network. What I don't know how to do is adding these shares to the paperless Docker container running on an ubuntu server vm. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ruimikemau · 2023-12-30 22:44 Either 1 - use volume mapping to make the smb folders "visible" in the paperless container, or 2 - set up smb to use one of the already used folders from the paperless container. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JimmyRecard · 2023-12-31 01:05 What I did is I created a consume folder on the server, and then mounted it via NFS (but I'm sure you can use Samba for Windows) on the main device. Then when I drop anyting in this special share, it gets consumed by paperless. Also, I'm sure you just misspoke, but do not try to mount the actual Docker volume of paperless directly. You're not supposed to touch it the files in the volume, they're managed automatically by Paperless and it expects them to be in a particular arrangement. Instead, you need to define a consume folder outside of Docker. [See here](https://docs.paperless- ngx.com/configuration/#PAPERLESS_CONSUMPTION_DIR).
