Which 2TB USB disk to get for Usenet downloading and unpacking?? 1) SSD? 2) 5400RPM 3) 7200RPM? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CrappyTan69 · 2023-12-30 17:52 Redoing a few things and moving onto a new server. I don't have space for more internal disks so happy to use a USB 3 disk. Should I: 1. Get a 2TB SSD / NVME (Need to buy one + caddy) 2. A 2TB 5400RPM disk (Have a spare 5TB disk + caddy) 3. a 2TB 7200RPM disk? (Need to buy a disk, have a caddy) This dis is only for downloading (NZBGet) to, unpacking and repairing. As soon as Radarr/Sonnarr see the file, it's moved off onto another storage array. In the past I've broken Sata SSDs (worn out) in this application. Around a year lifespan on them :) is a 7200 much better than a 5400? My current setup is ok but slow however if a file needs repairing, it's quicker to download it again :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ariquitaun · 2023-12-30 18:46 Which Usenet exactly so that we can look up the exact model numbers that mathematically correspond to the drives? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-12-30 18:54 Performance shouldn't really be an issue for this. I'd just buy the cheapest drive that's big enough. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CupofDalek · 2023-12-30 20:43 Fuck I'm eyeballing some 18tb drives that are going for $180 each right now haha ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thil3000 · 2023-12-30 21:01 The smallest $$/TB tbh… just buy a big drive you can afford and usb hdd docking station ---------------------------------------------------------------------- preclowski · 2023-12-30 21:41 5400, for silence and cost per TB. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Silly-Ad-6341 · 2023-12-30 22:19 Unless you're going for performance records your internet speed will be the bottleneck here. Even a slow HDD should be able to keep up and write with gigabit internet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chiefhunnablunts · 2023-12-31 00:24 got a link? i’ve got one bay left in my sabrent that needs filled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CupofDalek · 2023-12-31 01:35 https://www.newegg.com/seagate- exos-x20-18tb/p/1Z4-002P-02H45?Item=9SIA5ADK4J9792 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chazman14 · 2023-12-31 08:49 From what others have said, I would go with your option 2 and save some $$. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phlooo · 2023-12-31 16:04 Refurbished hard drives......no thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dalek5961 · 2023-12-31 20:36 Plenty of people use them, 5 year warranty, raid array, and if the that's is that sensitive, it should have backups anyways as well ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CupofDalek · 2023-12-31 21:52 >Plenty of people use them, 5 year warranty, raid array, and if the that's is that sensitive, it should have backups anyways as well Plenty of people use them, 5 year warranty, raid array, and if the that's is that sensitive, it should have backups anyways as well (Geo redundant)
