Introducing Moodist: A Free and Open-source Alternative to Noisli (Ambient Sound Generator) 🌲 reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-30 14:42 GitHub Link: https://github.com/remvze/moodist ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NotAfran · 2023-12-30 15:09 Just had a quick play with it, I love the design! Are the sounds under any specific license or do they follow the MIT license as well? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Gtkall · 2023-12-30 15:14 Thank you for your contribution! You should post your creation to the D&D and other TTRPG subreddits. You will get a lot of traction from there! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pet3121 · 2023-12-30 18:07 Can I selfhosted? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- murlakatamenka · 2023-12-30 18:34 UX stuff (all imho, for sure): - it needs some 1-click presets, otherwise you have to scroll, select some stuff, boring. You know, analysis paralysis, decisions-decisions. - desktop-friendly mode? I'm on an ultrawide monitor, and it's a narrow column in the center with plenty of unused space on the sides and long scrolling, while I could see *at least* 3-4 horizontally placed groups of sounds otherwise. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -rwsr-xr-x · 2023-12-30 18:45 I miss Coffitivity, still the best cafe sounds out there, by far, even besting Noisli's own. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LionSuneater · 2023-12-30 19:40 Coffitivity is still around, right? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SchwaHead · 2023-12-30 19:58 I have no idea how much work it would take, but being able to cast to the Google speakers would be nice. Looks nice as-is though, cheers! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- osmac · 2023-12-30 20:34 I was wondering this as well, I expected this to be a single html file with a few js/css files and the sound files, but looking at the github, it seems more complex than that... and I have no idea how the project is structured ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lostraven · 2023-12-30 22:16 Yeah, the readme needs to be updated to explain how to put this code to use for ourselves. Is u/remvze affiliated with the project or did they just find it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LeBaux · 2023-12-30 22:39 Please add link to GitHub and licence to the main website footer - that way we can instantly tell this is FOSS. Signal to users this is an open project. Maybe, just my 2c! Also, instantly jumping on this app, I have problems with focus and your app is so well crafted and has so many options! Well done! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VviFMCgY · 2023-12-30 23:22 Is this self hosted? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AncientSecond245 · 2023-12-31 01:16 despite the OP didn't write a decent readme file, it's built on top of nodejs by using astro framework. when you run `npm build` (you can use either npm, yarn, or pnpm in nodejs), you will get that html, js, and css files to be hosted. it's the way frontend framework works in nodejs. you can see the list of scripts in here https://github.com/remvze/moodist/blob/main/package.json and someone made a pull request to create a dockerfile. the whole build steps can be seens in here https://github.com/remvze/moodist/pull/2/files ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PracticalExtreme4075 · 2023-12-31 02:25 MyNoise ---------------------------------------------------------------------- niceman1212 · 2023-12-31 02:46 I like this, does anyone know of a way to stream this to sonos speakers? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thankyoufatmember · 2023-12-31 04:54 Thanks for mentioning this, I forgot about Coffitivity! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thankyoufatmember · 2023-12-31 04:56 Could we get a Docker image for this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -rwsr-xr-x · 2023-12-31 07:44 > Thanks for mentioning this, I forgot about Coffitivity! I found an old project called [coffitivity- offline](https://github.com/siwalikm/coffitivity-offline) that has some mp3 assets matching the old online version. It doesn't built with modern node/npm because electron-prebuilt-forge doesn't exist for M1/arm64 architecture, but you may be able to do something useful wtih the mp3s. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thankyoufatmember · 2023-12-31 08:25 Thanks buddy! ✨ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-31 09:21 Thank you! All the sounds (except two which I'm currently working on to replace them) are licensed under either [CC0](https://creativecommons.org/public-domain/cc0/) or [Pixabay Content License](https://pixabay.com/service/license-summary/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-31 09:40 Yes! You can either use the recently added Dockerfile or, as u/AncientSecond245 said, you can clone the project, install its dependencies (you need to have NodeJS installed) using `npm i`, build it using `npm run build`, and then upload the content of the `/dist` folder to pretty much anywhere you want to host it. And sorry for the incomplete README file; I will definitely update it to include the proper instructions! cc u/osmac u/lostraven ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-31 09:40 Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-31 09:41 Dockerfile is now available! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-31 09:44 Thank you for your feedback! Open source is already listed as one of its features with a link to GitHub, but I will surely add it to the footer as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LeBaux · 2023-12-31 09:45 Btw that thing is awesome as hell, You rock. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- devilsproud666 · 2023-12-31 10:00 What about docker-compose? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Alone-Entrepreneur24 · 2023-12-31 10:08 Are you open to contribution? I'd like to create a github action to build the docker image and store it to github container registry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-31 10:59 Thank you for your feedback! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-31 11:00 Sure! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- abarthch · 2023-12-31 12:13 Cool! Do you mind sharing the link to the docker-compose file? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Alone-Entrepreneur24 · 2023-12-31 13:45 you have a new PR to validate ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Alone-Entrepreneur24 · 2023-12-31 13:46 once the PR is merged the docker-compose will be in the repo. It won't work before as the image will be built by the github action in the PR. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- optroodt · 2023-12-31 14:46 First of all, great product, I really like it! I don’t seem to be getting any audio on my iPhone (neither Safari nor Chrome), but it works fine on my MacBook. I’m not in focus/dnd mode and have tried switching it on and off again, to avail. Any ideas? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-12-31 16:22 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- remvze · 2023-12-31 16:30 Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lostraven · 2023-12-31 17:19 Thank you!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-12-31 17:20 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shiftyduck86 · 2023-12-31 17:57 Sounds are really really cool! Will you be publishing a docker image? It makes it a lot easier for people to manage and update. I'm runnign docker on an external device and it's really not convienent to user docker files whereas with an image and docker-compose it'll load up instantly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- osmac · 2023-12-31 21:28 Thanks, I'll give it a shot!
