How am I supposed to work with permissions using filestash locally? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kyne_ahnung · 2023-12-29 20:32 I don't get it, I have a local directory that is owned by www-data because it's used by some other web apps. If I spin up a filestash container I can't write to this directory, if I specify "user: 33:33" in the compose file that fixes it but then I can't make changes in the admin config and get this error: > AjaxError: Filestash needs to be able to create/edit its own configuration which it can't at the moment. Change the permission for filestash to create and edit `/app/data/state/config/config.json` Which is presumably because of the uid change. What should I be doing? No info found in the documentation. compose.yml: version: "3.8" services: app: image: machines/filestash restart: unless-stopped user: 33:33 environment: - APPLICATION_URL= ports: - "8334:8334" volumes: - filestash_config:/app/data/state/ - /srv/test:/srv/test volumes: filestash_config: name: filestash_config ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A-Void-Me · 2023-12-30 12:22 does chown -R 33:33 filestash\_config fix your problem? on my host i needed use chown -R 1000:1000 FileStash/ or maybe even chmod ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kyne_ahnung · 2023-12-30 13:14 filestash_config is a volume, I could use a local directory on the host instead and set it to 33:33 - I might do that later. At the moment I'm testing out filebrowser which works better out of the box but is creating files as root even though I set the uid and guid to 33 as environment variables, I think I need to run the container as www-data as well. Will try both those things later and go with whichever works best. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kyne_ahnung · 2023-12-30 19:39 FYI this works for filestash if `chown 33:33 /srv/apps/filestash`is run before start: services: app: image: machines/filestash container_name: filestash-app restart: unless-stopped user: 33:33 environment: - APPLICATION_URL= ports: - "8334:8334" volumes: - /srv/apps/filestash:/app/data/state/ - /srv/test:/srv/test And this works for filebrowser if `chown -R 33:33 /srv/apps/filebrowser` is run before start: services: filebrowser: image: filebrowser/filebrowser:latest container_name: filebrowser-app restart: unless-stopped user: 33:33 environment: - TZ= ports: - 8380:80 volumes: - /srv/test:/srv - /srv/apps/filebrowser/database.db:/database.db I think I'll go with filebrowser after all, just fits me a little bit better after trying both but I really like filestash as well
