is there a way I can avoid using :8080 at the end of my domain reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamwhoiwasnow · 2023-12-28 20:20 Let me explain I have my main Ubuntu server that I use for jellyfin running Nginx and I have a separate Ubuntu server running on a different machine for my nextcloud running Apache2 I was able to set up my nginx to run as a reversed proxy for my apchae2 but now when I want to access my nextcloud I have to access it by going to [https://nextcloud.mydomain.com:8080](https://nextcloud.my domain.com:8080) my understanding is that since Jellyfin is already using ports 80 and 443 I am stuck using :8080 at the end of my nextcloud address is this correct? Is there a way around it? Thanks in advance! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- msanangelo · 2023-12-28 20:34 reverse proxy and subdomains, one sub per app. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BelugaBilliam · 2023-12-28 20:37 Jellyfin does not use 80/443. Jellyfin by default used 8096. I'm a little confused by your setup. I use caddy for reverse proxy. I tell caddy my local IP:port and my domain. It will do the rest for me. If I go to that domain, I don't need the :port on the end of the domain. Whatever you have setup, on whatever ports, just use caddy to do the reverse proxy and see if that makes any difference. You will likely need ports 80/443/53 port forwarded to the machine running caddy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamwhoiwasnow · 2023-12-28 20:39 That's exactly what I did. Guess I flubbed something along the lines. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AceHighness · 2023-12-28 21:18 Check the reverse proxy config file for the nextcloud subdomain, as long as the config file is listening to the full domain name you should be able to bind it to port 80/443 no problems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DoduOW · 2023-12-28 21:33 So your reverse proxy should be on port 80/443 and change jellyfin to be on another port (eg 8081), then the reverse proxy will redirect jellyfin.mydomain.com (defaulting to 80/443) to localhost:8081 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamwhoiwasnow · 2023-12-28 21:34 I'm try that thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coltrain423 · 2023-12-29 01:56 Probably just missed a reverse proxy rule to forward external:80 to internal:8080 instead of just directly forwarding the port. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamwhoiwasnow · 2023-12-29 02:11 So it turns out I was never actually using the reverse proxy. My config files weren't right and I was just accessing nextcloud directly from its own server. The problem is when I made my Jellyfin config file I created a separate one and I guess the right thing to do would be to move all my files to one location and delete any conflicting ones but I'm so paranoid about messing anything on Jellyfin that I'm just leaving this as is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- number1dadbod · 2023-12-29 18:37 Just be careful, I think nginix proxy uses 81 or 8081 for its admin page. Make sure your ports don't conflict. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamwhoiwasnow · 2023-12-29 18:38 I gave up on using Nginx as a reverse proxy for now. I'm just gonna use Nextcloud on 8080 directly from my second server. I don't want to move anything until I build a decent server. I'm currently using old laptops I had laying around. Thanks though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- number1dadbod · 2023-12-29 18:40 It's the best way to learn, I believe I wrote a tutorial on it on my website, wicked Yoda.com But we also have a discord with a lot of self hosted users who are great to ask and bounce ideas off. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamwhoiwasnow · 2023-12-29 18:40 That's awesome. What's the discord? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- number1dadbod · 2023-12-29 18:43 https://discord.gg/JfsebxqKDW That post should work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamwhoiwasnow · 2023-12-29 18:43 Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- number1dadbod · 2023-12-29 18:46 We had a problem with some links a while back when discord.io got hacked. Some of our links became invalid, if that doesn't work let me know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lioncat55 · 2023-12-30 07:26 If your running anything docker, Nginx Proxy Manager is really handy and easy to use.
