How can I pass my Perforce server through NGINX instead of opening the port in the gateway directly to the machine? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- letshomelab · 2023-12-28 14:45 I got Perforce set up the other day for revision control for Unreal Engine, but I'd like to set it up to be access remotely as well. I already have the NGINX proxy set up to pass through to the system from my ddns domain, but I don't know what I need to do in the gateway for this to work. Do I need to open 1666 to nginx and then let nginx handle it from there? I use NGINX Proxy Manager if that makes a difference. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-28 15:20 Use *stream* in Nginx to pass the TCP or UDP on any incoming port to your perforce server running on 1666. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- letshomelab · 2023-12-28 21:17 I don't understand how that's different than just setting a proxy on NGINX. Maybe I don't understand what the stream section does? I would still have to open port 1666, no? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-28 21:37 https://docs.nginx.com/nginx/admin-guide/load-balancer/tcp-udp-load- balancer/ Because it's not HTTP but TCP or UDP only. So you need a TCP/UDP proxy and Nginx does this via *stream*. Read the Nginx documentation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- letshomelab · 2023-12-28 21:39 Ohhhh gotcha. Thank you for explaining! I did a few tests just now and it DOES seem to only work via Stream or direct open port, so I like the Stream better.
