Jellyfin 4k Video transcoding to 1080p on 4k tv (xbox) reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- turbocharged5652 · 2023-12-28 09:14 So my jellyfin is setup so my gtx 1070ti transcodes all my video streams. Video is 4k HEVC HDR. Jellyfin app on xbox one x has “prefer fMP4-HLS Media container” checked. Max screen resolution is 4k and no bitrate limit set (unlimited). Video plays in 4k on my pc with no issue but it will not stream 4k on my tv its self through roku’s jellyfin app and it wont on the jellyfin app for xbox. Possibly just a jellyfin and xbox issue?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Justbecauseican101 · 2023-12-28 09:50 Try turning off transcoding and convert media. Just to see if it actually is stopping it from playing properly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zeitue · 2023-12-28 11:15 I recall that from the admin dashboard you can see who's playing what, and in that area there is a little info icon which says the reason it's transcoding. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- emprahsFury · 2023-12-28 20:36 That's weird because it says it is direct playing, but also says it is transcoding. Normally the play method will say transcoding, and in the transcoding section it will say why it is transcoding. I'd say the next step is to take the bug to their subreddit but... we're not allowed to have nice things anymore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- turbocharged5652 · 2023-12-28 20:39 Sorry for some reason it didnt show the reasons when i took the picture and i did not notice. Reasons were audio codec, video resolution, video bitrate and video range type was not supported ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zeitue · 2023-12-28 20:55 Glad you found the reasons, I thought the Xbox supported HEVC, I don't currently have a working jellyfin to test it though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Guitar_man54r · 2023-12-28 22:17 “Radiator springs. Hdmi port is setup for 4k along with the xbox settings. Other media plays in 4k through streaming providers but only some hevc hdr content cannot be streamed which is why i am confused ---------------------------------------------------------------------- turbocharged5652 · 2023-12-29 09:28 The 4k content gets transcoded to 1080p from the original 4k file ---------------------------------------------------------------------- turbocharged5652 · 2023-12-29 09:35 Mater.
