Is there a way to disable the "smart" software from my Sony Bravia and solely use the Apple TV? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- manwiththe104IQ · 2023-12-28 06:55 The built-in "smart" software on TVs is dog poo. I dont even want it as an option. When people are trying to cast to the TV I have to explain not to use the "smart tv", but to use the apple Tv option. When someone accidentally hits a button on teh TV remote, it launches an app in the "smart tv" software instead of the Apple Tv. How do I uninstall it? I want to keep the options menu for the TV, but the UI with the sluggish "smart tv" apps, I dont want. Is there a self-hosted jailbreak software or something to disable it? I dont want it to exist at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CabSauce · 2023-12-28 07:07 Never connect your TV to the internet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BlockDigest · 2023-12-28 07:11 You probably can’t remove the original software. Just disable the built in networking and permanently set your TV to use the HDMI input from Apple TV. Don’t overthink it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Snowedin-69 · 2023-12-28 07:32 Hide the remote. Why do you need the options button. I cannot stand tv remotes - one the reasons I buy apple tvs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- viviolay · 2023-12-28 07:36 Depending how intense you want to be, I had the WiFi stop working in my tv and had to open the back and fix some issue on the circuit board. I imagine you can do the opposite and disconnect the WiFi receiver and just have the ATV connect to internet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-12-28 07:40 I just don’t connect mine to the network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Budget-Scar-2623 · 2023-12-28 08:04 Or disable it in settings so you don’t void the warranty or unintentionally brick the tv. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- advanced_soni · 2023-12-28 08:43 wise words! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NullVoidXNilMission · 2023-12-28 08:46 They're trash. I just have a desktop pc, with a Logitech k400 and a wireless mouse hooked up to the tv. Output is 4k, and 60hz. Im running Windows 10 tho. I might switch this pc to linux soon ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NomadicWorldCitizen · 2023-12-28 08:58 Just use the Apple TV. No need to disable anything on your TV ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FlibblesHexEyes · 2023-12-28 09:16 I don’t connect my tv to the network. The AppleTV is connected via HDMI and the AppleTV remote turns the tv on and off and controls the volume no trouble. So take the batteries out and hide the tv remote :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YUNeedUniqUserName · 2023-12-28 10:24 You made that sound like apple is famous for great remotes ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Simon-RedditAccount · 2023-12-28 10:33 Actually, a lot of people re-flash their TVs, for one reason or another (mainly for unlocking geo-locked features), but I believe that r/selfhosted is not the right subreddit for this kind of questions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- carlospezao · 2023-12-28 11:54 This ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bazpaul · 2023-12-28 11:57 My Samsung has this giant “accept terms and conditions” banner every time I switch on the tv. It’s so fucking annoying. Might connect to a phone hotspot just to accept it and then disconnect again ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-12-28 12:01 this has nothing to do with self hosting ---------------------------------------------------------------------- andvell · 2023-12-28 13:17 I wish they had stupid TVs for sale. The Smart ones get obsolete, and you end up needing to use external devices anyway. I have a 12 year old Samsung that they never updated the software on it. I have a good TV stick on its HDMI, and that is what I use. Even the remote control I use is from my TV stick. That said, the new Sony TVs come with Android TV, which is very customizable and updatable and has lots of apps on the Play Store. I would prefer it than surrending to the Apple ecosystem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NullVoidXNilMission · 2023-12-28 16:20 The tos i get rarely show up unless i go into settings and when they do it's just like 1/3rd of the screen ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AmstradCPC464 · 2023-12-28 17:07 Maybe this is a myth, but I think some TVs won't let you get through the setup process without connecting it to the internet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Antmannz · 2023-12-28 18:06 In that case, return it as "not fit for purpose" and get something else. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-28 18:40 ## Post Removed Hey, manwiththe104IQ!
