Weird ERR_CONNECTION_RESET when trying to connect to VPS reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ImpressionableCanary · 2023-12-28 03:33 Hi all I'm facing a really strange series of connection errors. For context, I run some VPS droplets on Digitalocean, and was trying to set up a new droplet for personal use. But for some reason, as soon as I attempt to set up any kind of reverse proxy (traefik, Nginx reverse proxy, Yunohost redirects), I get an ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET when trying to access (via web browser) any of the subdomains I've tried to set up. Not only that, but visiting the IP address and port directly via a web browser also gives me an ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET when previously I was still able to access any dashboard I had running. This is what I've tried and they did not work: * Use another computer on the same network. I've tried computers with Windows 10, 11, MacOS. All fresh installs with nothing else installed. All faced the same ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET. * Used other browsers, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, across different computers on the same network. All faced the same ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET. * Cleared my cache and browser histories. Same ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET. * Restarted the VPS. Same ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET. * Restored the VPS to before I attempted any reverse proxy. Same ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET. * Deleted the VPS, set up a new one with the same Debian 11 distro. Tried another reverse proxy. Same ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET after trying to set up one reverse proxy. * Deleted the VPS, set up a new one with a different Ubuntu distro. Tried another reverse proxy. Same ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET after trying to set up one reverse proxy. What I did that did not result in an error: * Attempt access on my mobile (latest iOS), using the same network. Works perfectly. But obviously you wouldn't manage a VPS over iOS. * SSH and pinging the VPS still works normally. * Use a VPN and access the VPS via a web browser. That somehow works. But turning off the VPN results in the same ERR\_CONNECTION\_RESET. I've checked the logs, but there was no indication of any attempt or failure to access the VPS. Only the successful connections and failed password attempts show up. Does anyone have a clue as to what might be going on? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GrumpyCat79 · 2023-12-28 08:34 > Not only that, but visiting the IP address and port directly via a web browser also gives me an ERR_CONNECTION_RESET If you use HTTPS and specify a port (or host a HTTPS server on port 80) but don't have https:// in front of the URL, it may give that error
