It is faster and less resources consuming when it is doing the backup. I use rclone to sync Duplicacy's backups to Cloud. Duplicati and Duplicacy both support backup to the cloud, but I prefer to use an external tool for Cloud backups because, in this way, I can easily change the local backup tool without having too many issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- crusader-kenned · 2023-12-28 07:34 Borgmatic. Yet another thing I didn’t know existed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gromhelmu · 2023-12-28 08:11 My backup utility of choice is having a central, locked down, offsite ZFS box that receives ZFS snapshots from the various machines via ZFS pull mode. For all pull connections, a locked down ZFS user exists on remote machines that is restricted to `ZFS send` via ZFS delegation. For automated pulling, I use `Syncoid`. On machines, for automatic snapshots, I have either `Sanoid` setup or some other way of automated snapshots. On my laptops, I use Linux on ZFS, so I can pull snapshots from those as well. If I need Windows, I run it inside a VM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BeefcakeUK · 2023-12-28 08:18 Rsync ---------------------------------------------------------------------- geek_at · 2023-12-28 09:19 PSA that if you use encrypted ZFS pools (which you should), you can `zfs send -w` to send the encrypted raw pool and on the target (which can be some low CPU device with a USB HDD attached at a parents house) you can zfs import and it will allow you to import the pool without needing the key. Meaning you have a full backup of your pool without needing the key on the receiver. You get a license to use per installation, [the actual algorithm seems to be hostname + machine-id](https://github.com/ehough/docker- duplicacy#duplicacy-license). There is no limit on backups as long as you have local access to the specific storage you want to backup. There is no free trial. CLI is free for personal usage, Web UI gives 30 free days of trial, and then you have to buy a license. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ariquitaun · 2023-12-28 13:38 Different use cases.
