However a database is required. It is hosted at server side. Offline access is planned in the future ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Camminatore · 2023-12-27 20:41 Looks pretty good, thanks for the project! I’m curious as to how the files are managed. Is the `/data` folder (shown in the example docker compose) supposed to contain the markdown files or the database? If the answer is both, can I specify a different folder for the database to be in? If I have a folder containing a bunch of markdown files, and pass this folder to `/data` (assuming that it does hold the markdown files), will it automatically import all the files in it? What about if there’s folders? Is there a demo site that I could try out before I get the docker image running? I’ve been using [flatnotes](https://github.com/dullage/flatnotes) for the past few months, what do you think your project has to offer that this one doesn’t? In other words, why should I switch? Asking since i’m open to alternatives, and the mobile UI for flatnotes is pretty janky especially the toolbar. Edit: looking at the docs answered most of my questions. If i read correctly, the data path holds the markdown files *and* the database file if you use sqlite. The database location can however be changed using the `DB_URI` environment variable in the docker compose, so I imagine that i could have the following setup: ```yml … volumes: - /notemark:/db - /files/markdown:/data environment: - DB_URI: /db/database.sqlite … ``` … and this would allow me to have in the os a folder for only the markdown files and a folder only for the notemark database file, am i getting all of this correctly ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ctrl-brk · 2023-12-27 20:44 Well done. Can all editing (including initial creation of) of articles be done entirely within the web UI? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- enchant97 · 2023-12-27 20:45 Notes and assets are stored in /data and if sqlite is used that file will be in there as well. It is however in a custom format so you cannot just copy your existing notes into it directly. At the moment the app features no import/export utility. As for what mine offers compared to others, just take a look at the feature list! Currently no demo site, sorry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- enchant97 · 2023-12-27 20:47 Thanks, all editing and creation is done through the web ui. You can also manage all you note's assets like pictures. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Camminatore · 2023-12-27 20:56 I see, thanks for the reply. So if I wanted to import my existing notes I would have to copy and paste the contents of these into new notes from the UI? Also if you could have a look at the edit in the original comment that would be awesome ---------------------------------------------------------------------- enchant97 · 2023-12-27 21:10 Yes at the moment the only way to import would be to copy and paste the contents through the ui. The data is stored like this, all filename are uuids: /notes/ab/ab1234/note.md /notes/ab/ab1234/assets/defg1234.bin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mexter · 2023-12-27 23:36 This sounds very cool. But I've never managed to figure out how docker works. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theobserver_ · 2023-12-28 05:54 can this allow me to sync to github, i like to keep a copy local and on my github repo. if not ill stick to my vscode setup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- probablynotmine · 2023-12-28 08:18 I’m more interested in the server side hosting rather than the offline access to avoid all the annoyance of syncing multiple machines, I’ll give this a try, thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- enchant97 · 2023-12-28 09:13 It does not. If you store your notes in a git repo and edit with vscode it's probably best to use a static site generator like hugo to render the markdown. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jogai-san · 2023-12-28 12:19 Thanks, the aio image makes it really easy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- enchant97 · 2023-12-28 13:09 Glad to hear! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ManiacMog · 2023-12-29 03:33 Is the webui optimized for mobile devices? Or, is there a mobile app for reaching a selfhosted webui? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- enchant97 · 2023-12-29 09:24 It is optimised for mobile, I use it daily for writing notes. I think it generally better to install as a PWA then it opens as it's own window, although for this to work it must be served via https.
