Building a music downloader for Plex reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 8trackuser · 2023-12-24 23:27 remined me 2 days ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fredflintstone88 · 2023-12-25 01:21 Where will it download music from? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Erikt311 · 2023-12-25 01:36 Cool. Any details whatsoever? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Juesor · 2023-12-25 01:44 Have you heard of lidarr ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digilitz · 2023-12-25 03:00 Yes of course I have ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digilitz · 2023-12-25 03:00 Youtube ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ExcessiveEscargot · 2023-12-25 03:05 Yeah, I love the amount of effort and detail that went into this post. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Level-Guard-9311 · 2023-12-25 03:31 Be much cooler if you built an official music video downloaded… that’s what I’m looking for. I guess I could hijack the post.. anyone have any leads on indexers (nzb) or dl clients that can pull down official music videos. I have spare space and I think the official music video playing on a tv while music is on during get togethers would be fantastic! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digilitz · 2023-12-25 04:01 Maybe Tubesync? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Level-Guard-9311 · 2023-12-25 04:55 Yeah I’ve done a few manually.. I’m looking for a bit more automation. Honestly, I would hate to just download them all… like every one of them! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Midnight_Rising · 2023-12-25 04:56 Why would you choose that as your source when there are much better options? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- therealpocket · 2023-12-25 05:16 what are better options? I use soulseek for everything and curious if there’s anything else out there ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fy_pool_day · 2023-12-25 05:19 Download off Apple Music or deezer. YouTube is literally the worst lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Midnight_Rising · 2023-12-25 05:22 Well, Soulseek is much better than Youtube. You could also use music torrents and the Headphones VIP usenet indexer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- speedbrown · 2023-12-25 06:29 Lidarr + PlexAmp = Elite ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nyucio · 2023-12-25 06:57 Private Torrent Trackers ofc. Needs a while to get going, but then you will have everything you want in the best quality. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- olazapa · 2023-12-25 06:59 Lidarr with extedended scripts can download music videos from atleast Tidal or Youtube and maybe Deezer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- greenphlem · 2023-12-25 07:59 I guess my question is are you doing this as a hobby or are you planning on competing with lidarr? If the latter, what differentiates this over it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Perpetual_Nuisance · 2023-12-25 08:19 Video that should have been a screenshot, unresponsive, no information... I wonder why you even bothered posting here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alex2003super · 2023-12-25 08:22 Doesn't Apple Music have DRM? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Strange_Effective_21 · 2023-12-25 09:39 Could you elaborate on what lidarr is please , I have all my music in lossless flac files , is it a player or aggregator so to speak ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Bug4395 · 2023-12-25 09:47 lidarr is great when I want to have 1200 pending downloads and zero things actually downloaded because there's no way to override it's stupid release selector ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Bug4395 · 2023-12-25 11:29 Lidarr is a tool that will (allegedly) rip music for you via something like transmission. I.e., you request music from Lidarr and it goes and finds torrents to put into transmission. There's other download methods also. If you already have all of the music you want to have in flac format, you don't need Lidarr. Also it's really bad at actually grabbing the music you want it to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- homemediajunky · 2023-12-25 11:46 Where's the actual info? The repo to try if wanted? Somewhere we can go look at the project and get more information that a video showing Plex adding new content. Is there a container? How is authentication handled? Can it use torrents? etc, etc, etc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digilitz · 2023-12-25 12:03 Doing this as a hobby & to help get my wife off apple music subscription. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digilitz · 2023-12-25 12:08 Youtube is just the easiest way I've found. This program is built for ease of use, not really that concerned about quality all that much. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MRobi83 · 2023-12-25 12:38 Out of all the *arrs, Lidarr is by far the one that works the least. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FormerPassenger1558 · 2023-12-25 13:19 Lidarr+Jellyfin+NZB ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kkazakov · 2023-12-25 13:33 Deemix + paid Deezer. Can download in FLAC easily. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thomassey476 · 2023-12-25 13:51 With high quality audio 👌 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Midnight_Rising · 2023-12-25 14:18 I would recommend looking integrating with Lidarr before directly downloading music from YouTube. I know that you're "not really that concerned about quality", but from a consistency standpoint and a stability standpoint you're going to get longer use out of a Lidarr integration than a youtube download method that may or may not work as YouTube works to block adblockers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TrvlMike · 2023-12-25 14:19 I only use it for manual finding and nothing automated. Unmonitored everything. It's nice as a sorting app. It's a mess if you try to download and import a lot at once. It's fine though since I only want a few things from my favorite artists. Everyday listening is still Spotify for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nitsky416 · 2023-12-25 14:38 That's not what ripping means ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Bug4395 · 2023-12-25 16:26 you're gonna find a whole bunch of people using "rip" and other words used for stealing media interchangeably pretty much anywhere people are talking about it lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Bug4395 · 2023-12-25 16:31 yeah ive got about 36k tracks and I only wanted to use lidarr for downloads so it was not a great experience for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Level-Guard-9311 · 2023-12-25 16:34 Great!! Thank you! Now I’ve got starting point. I have lidarr up now so I’ll start researching it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nitsky416 · 2023-12-25 16:35 Tell yourself whatever you want, won't make it true unfortunately. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Bug4395 · 2023-12-25 16:39 I mean I'm correct, people use these words interchangeably all the time. not sure why you're so triggered about it ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marksideofthedoon · 2023-12-25 16:55 Man, All I want is for a self-hosted app that will scrape my YTM and Spotify for any new songs I like and just download them all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marksideofthedoon · 2023-12-25 16:59 Because it's not interchangeable. The word has a very specific meaning. What is it with Gen Z's era that makes everyone just disregard how language is supposed to work? Using words incorrectly is the fastest way to be misunderstood and it'll only be your own fault. But you do you, boo. And I'm with u/nitsky416... You are not correct. You're just being deliberately incorrect while claiming you are right. That will never make you right. Facts don't work that way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marksideofthedoon · 2023-12-25 17:00 Oh dude....that's a terrible source of audio files. They're transcoded all to hell and are SUPER low quality. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marksideofthedoon · 2023-12-25 17:01 Then you're going to have a hard time selling this idea to anyone but your wife. You're gonna get absolutely roasted online. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nitsky416 · 2023-12-25 17:05 Language evolves, is their point, which is a fair one. But mine is that muddling it because you don't give enough of a shit to use it correctly just makes your communications unclear, and I don't think they get that because they're only exposed to people who warp it the same way so they think their experience is universal (which it is not). Having your whole extended family calling a PB&J "Pete's sandwich" because one person named Pete really likes them is fine when the only people you're communicating with have the same codebook. If you order Pete's sandwich at Panera you'll get looked at like a crazy person. Another example would be the poop knife, obviously. Either way, I'm done feeding the trolls. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Juan71287 · 2023-12-25 18:08 Can’t wait for a release. This looks awesome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- whitepuffdaddy · 2023-12-25 18:10 Yes, i agree, the discord support and devs are major jerks lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chuchodavids · 2023-12-25 19:39 >lidarr is great when I want to have 1200 pending downloads and zero things actually downloaded because there's no way to override it's stupid release selector hahahahahah this is my experience summarized 100% ---------------------------------------------------------------------- greenphlem · 2023-12-26 02:11 Dope, rock on then ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Bug4395 · 2023-12-26 02:17 it doesn't really matter if you think it's interchangeable, it is now. cry about it if you want, people are gonna use words the way they feel like lol. I'm pretty sure i found the only two people who could possibly give this much of a shit about it lmao ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Bug4395 · 2023-12-26 02:19 > Having your whole extended family calling a PB&J "Pete's sandwich" because one person named Pete really likes them is fine when the only people you're communicating with have the same codebook. If you order Pete's sandwich at Panera you'll get looked at like a crazy person. lol but that's not what's going on here, what's happening is the majority of people who pirate shit will use the words interchangeably. I didn't, by myself, make this up. You're just overly upset over, like you described, language evolving. Nobody is "muddling language" lmao, you just want to be overly specific about things that have been interchangeable for decades because you are pretentious. edit: dude blocked me but his response is absolutely dripping with irony, i love it ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marksideofthedoon · 2023-12-26 04:39 You are free to use words the way you want to. You are not free to expect people to understand a goddamn thing you're saying unless you use words the way they are meant to be used. I'm sorry you don't understand how language works, but you're wrong and you'll always be wrong about this. If we cannot agree about what words mean, then we cannot communicate. That is literally the basis of all communication. The fact that I have to explain this to you is sad and pathetic. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marksideofthedoon · 2023-12-26 04:43 That's my point. Common parlance is different than allegorical speech. The two are not compatible. Anyone who uses the excuse "language evolves" is just trying to cover for the fact that their vocabulary is poor and they have poor communication skills. Yes, language evolves. This isn't evolution, this is misuse. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marksideofthedoon · 2023-12-26 04:46 Lol, no. We do not use all our terms interchangeably. That would be chaos. You're just projecting and making wild assumptions to back up your very erroneous point. Feel free to keep being wrong about everything. it's only going to make your life harder. I certainly have nothing to gain from talking to you ever again since you think the world only thinks like you do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fishfeet_ · 2023-12-26 15:16 This! I loved Spotify for its new music discovery and now that I have left it I feel like I’m always missing out on new great songs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fishfeet_ · 2023-12-26 15:18 Also because of the way music albums singles ep etc are organized, LiDAR fails as often as it succeeds which makes me sad
