Paperless-ng classification of documents reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lgLindstrom · 2023-12-24 14:34 Hi I have extensively used a document to scan all documents received by post. Finding a document is more or less dependent on me remembering when in time I got it. Can I use Paperless to find the sender of the document and classify it based on that property and some other important data. If so,, how does Paperless do that? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ExoWire · 2023-12-24 14:47 There are multiple options. You can setup some rule for automatic tagging, Each document has a correspondent and multiple tags. But you should use Paperless-ngx instead of Paperless. https://deployn.de/en/blog/20220308_paperless-ngx/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lgLindstrom · 2023-12-24 15:05 Can you specify a are that contains the sender of the document? Maybe even use a image as a identifier of the sender? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ExoWire · 2023-12-24 15:09 I don't think so. You have to create a correspondent, then you can define when this correspondend should be choosen. If you set it to auto, paperless learns when to use this correspondent. But Paperless will not create new correspondents for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lgLindstrom · 2023-12-24 15:19 Ok Then I set up a correspondent: Taxoffice How does Paperless identify which documents belonging to this correspondent? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ExoWire · 2023-12-24 15:21 Is this word "Taxoffice" somewhere on the document? Then it will learn or you can setup: if text contain "taxoffice" select taxoffice as correspondent ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lgLindstrom · 2023-12-24 15:29 Okey. Understand how to associate document with "Taxoffice" But if I have a dokument and the text contains the word "Taxoffice" but correspondent is not "Taxoffice". The text only mention the word. Will it still be associated with "Taxoffice"? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ExoWire · 2023-12-24 15:32 Depends. With your manual rule, yes. With the automatic rule, also yes, unless you select another correspondent, then it will try to understand the pattern when to use the correspondent "taxoffice" and when use another one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lgLindstrom · 2023-12-24 15:48 Okay, thanks
