Paperless-NGX for an corporate environment ? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ICT_Noob · 2023-12-24 13:02 Hello, My commercial departments looking for an open source solution to scan and store (about 20 document a day) and get the document easly and faster when it needed I searched in the internet and i found a lot of recommendation for Paperless-NGX Do you recommend that for my case ? If not, what are the best alternatives Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nintenuendo_ · 2023-12-24 13:19 Peperless-ng is definitely what you're looking for. Best option in the open source world ---------------------------------------------------------------------- atredd · 2023-12-24 13:54 If it’s only about 20 documents I think it will be fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thutex · 2023-12-24 14:52 paperless-ngx is def. a good solution for this. set it up somewhere, set your scanner to scan2mail, connect paperless- ngx to that mailbox, and watch the docs come in. i currently have about 400-500 documents in my install, and just recently had to find an invoice from 2019... took me 3 seconds. the automation and tagging options are great, so once setup correctly, you can easily filter and retrieve documents. it can even perform actions based on barcodes, if they are on the document. only issue that can be seen, from time to time, is that paperless might pick the wrong date if there are multiple dates on the document, so you might have to update the date manually. one thing of note, and a mistake i made: filenames make sure when setting it up, that you define HOW paperless needs to handle the filenames, so manual searches will remain possible ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dany_897 · 2023-12-24 19:09 What I found is that I get many errors when uploading the documents, scan error, but might be a fault on my side. Look at that if you are looking for reliability ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PaleMongo · 2023-12-24 20:06 This would seldom meet typcial corporate security requirements. Homelab, yes; self-employed, fine; but otherwise look for something like FileCenter DMS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jorgo1 · 2023-12-25 01:49 I disagree, source code is auditable, it’s containerised, a corporate could build their own fork of it if they wanted to add or remove functionality. Hell of a lot more secure than something closed source ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ICT_Noob · 2023-12-25 07:01 ng or ngx ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nintenuendo_ · 2023-12-25 07:08 So, I'm not a user of it, I actually just installed paperless-ngx to fuck around with it. But from what I can tell, Paperless-NG is discontinued, and Paperless- NGX is the successor? Now I may be wrong about that, but that's what my take on it is, because on fleet.linuxserver.io their version is depreciated, but ngx's github repo was updated a week ago.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jhf2442 · 2023-12-25 11:08 ngx Ist the latest greatest maintained fork ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DrunkOnKnight · 2023-12-25 15:31 Absolutely, I run a small business restaurant and I use it for all my checkouts, invoices, and P&Ls. The tagging automation allows me to teach paperless how to read each invoice and categorize them based on vendor. OCR works great as well as long as you have a proper scanner rather than using your phone camera. I can easily grab numbers from my everything else and paste them into my excel spreadsheets.
