File sync application with web acceaa reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ushills · 2023-12-24 11:37 Hi, looking for a simpler Nextcloud alternative with web access to files and WebDAV, I'm considering Seafile or Syncthing, tending towards Syncthing as it seems well supported it does it have web access to files remotely? Can either also access files on Android and selectively sync photos? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ushills · 2023-12-24 13:04 Well it looks like Syncthing being peer-peer has to download the files locally to access and has no web access, Seafile stores files in a non-native file system format? Both are against what I wanted, would Pydio be a suitable alternative, Nextcloud is becoming too slow? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JuvenoiaAgent · 2023-12-24 15:29 I use Syncthing for continuous/immediate-on-change synchronization. For the rest, though, I use [SFTPGo](https://sftpgo.com/). It has a web interface (not the best though\*) and you can enable WebDAV and/or SFTP. On Android, I use [Round Sync](https://github.com/newhinton/Round- Sync). It's an android app that uses rclone under the hood. You can configure a WebDAV endpoint and copy files to/from your phone. It allows setting up scheduled sync tasks, so I have a few that run backups at night. For WebDAV, I've also been curious to try out [KaraDAV](https://github.com/kd2org/karadav) since it supports Nextcloud apps, but I haven't yet had time to do so. \* You can always use a different web app for file management, such as [File Browser](https://filebrowser.org/) or [Filestash](https://www.filestash.app/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-12-24 19:40 Maybe FileRun would be interesting to you? It's costs a little money? Also KaraDAV? It has a simple web interface and supports NextCloud clients (but sadly not on iOS or macOS). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taylorhamwithcheese · 2023-12-24 20:36 I use Syncthing to sync photos to my server, which are indexed with Photoprism. I also have filebrowser pointed to the photo directory, along with a bunch of other ones. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- quinyd · 2023-12-25 10:49 Syncthing does not have web access. It needs to download all the files locally. I would suggest Seafile. Been using it for 5+ years without issues ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ushills · 2023-12-25 13:00 How do you backup your Seafile data, I understand it does not use normal files but a block based file? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- quinyd · 2023-12-25 15:30 I use Seafile cli to sync data to my NAS, which is then backed up. I keep all my Seafile data multiple places: - Pi3B+ running Seafile. This data isn’t backed up. - data synced to NAS using Seafile cli. This data is backed up to backblaze b2. - data synced to windows using Seafile desktop client. - data synced to Linux laptop using Seafile desktop client. So my data is 3 places locally (2x laptop + NAS) and two off-site locations Pi3B+ (at my parents house) and backblaze b2. If the system should crash. I’ll startup a new Seafile docker container and import the data again.
