Backup Options reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- saxxappeal · 2023-12-24 04:32 Hi all, long time lurker here. I have a few days off work, so I took the time to rebuild my home setup. . The old setup was an old Mac Pro running Virtual Box to deliver my services (Plex, NextCloud, a few others). The host was a very old version of MacOS (High Sierra 🤦‍♂️). I used Mac built-in disk management to create 2 separate RAID mirrors, and all of this was backed up with Backblaze. The new setup is already mostly up and I'm loving it! Same hardware with a few drives swapped. Proxmox on bare metal, all services are now in LXC unprivileged containers, and I'm using ZFS mirrors to provide 2 pools where everything important lives. I really liked an unlimited cloud backup in case my house catches on fire or something. Backblaze doesn’t have a straightforward way to offer this for my current setup, and I really like the low monthly price point. What are you all using for cloud backup on headless Linux servers? Or am I just gonna have to build something, install it in my parents’ house (500 miles away), and use rsync magic like I’ve done before? Thanks for reading!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ejz9 · 2023-12-24 07:04 Just finnished setting up my backup plan. I currently use Kopia in a docker container as I appreciate the webUI. It defuplicates and always encrypts (if that’s what you like). I have two containers running. One, backs up to a repository (backup storage location) on my 5TB external drive (I only have max 2TB to save). The other runs connecting to backblaze B2 cloud storage (don’t confuse this with the personal plan) which so far is working superb. 2 days in 😄. I tried proxmox once but I’ll leave my opinions aside. I will recognize though that everything may not directly contact the storage you have in the same way. So Kopia probably isn’t a solution for you. I hear proxmox has a snapshots features and backups feature built in though so if you take those and maybe shove them into some backup software that backs them up externally that may work. This thread might help: https://www.reddit.com/r/Proxmox/comments/w1nb bg/how_do_you_backup_your_zfs_pools_datasets_with/ I apologize that I am not completely knowledgeable I just saw no one has said anything so figured I would. I tried Proxmox like a month ago but tailscale and GPU passthrough were killers for me. Also, remember redundancy is not necessarily backup. Good luck! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IceOleg · 2023-12-24 08:41 I'm using Restic as a back up program, uploading to [rsync.net](https://www.rsync.net/) as a back end.
