Company Chat an Collaboration reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Soggy-Possible-5557 · 2023-12-23 22:39 I am trying to get secure chat running in my company with 200 employees. I dont understand the [rocket.chat](https://rocket.chat) pricing. I selfhost it but I still have to pay for more than 50 users?! is there anywhere a definitive answer to pricing while selfhosting? If there is pricing for selfhosting is there also a free fork? The code seems to be MIT licensed. What about Matrix and using element? Can someone give some impressions how that works with selfhosting and using it only internally in the company? It has federation options which I would disable. Zulip does not support e2e encryption, which I need. Is there anything else, that you know of? Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SeirWasTaken · 2023-12-23 22:56 Try [Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/download/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Soggy-Possible-5557 · 2023-12-23 23:04 Thanks, I think they will also bill me, even if I am selfhosting. Also I dont see if they support end-to-end-encryption. Otherwise they look cool. Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vladmazek · 2023-12-23 23:35 This exact scenario came up a few weeks ago… yes, once you leave the community edition the max is now 25. https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/s/ixT1xOS3t3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- albtechno · 2023-12-24 01:38 try virola messenger its great open source and easy to setup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ExtracellularTweet · 2023-12-24 02:46 I'm using a selfhosted Matrix server with Element that handles a community of around 50 people. This is working very well with most of Slack or [Rocket.chat](https://Rocket.chat) features supported. You're not required to use federation at all. The people who set it up in our community didn't have many issues with it I think and it seems to have a perfect uptime. Also you can use OpenID Connect for authentication. And no user limitation or anything like this :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KrazyKirby99999 · 2023-12-24 03:21 With regards to Matrix, you can self-host Synapse as a Matrix homeserver, and configure it to not federate with other servers. You can then self-host Element as a Matrix client, and configure it to only use your homeserver. With e2ee users will need to verify each other, and verify sessions on new devices from other logged-in devices or using a "security key". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aramisathei · 2023-12-24 04:40 Using mattermost as well and love it. Self-hosted is free, though there is a licensed version available they push rather heavily. I *think* they do E2E, but not sure. Also supports handy stuff like OIDC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blind_guardian23 · 2023-12-24 07:17 They wont unless you need a enterprise feature (like LDAP). Mattermost has imho the best ui and features and is very close to slack which is kind of the gold standard (except the selfhosting thing). Here is my role to manage it: https://github.com/selfhostx/ansible/tree/main/roles/mattermost End2end encryption is imho not as important in a selfhosted/company situation, most Instant messenger do not offer it. matrix is ok but once you have active conversations (which needs threads!) its too noisy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WiseCookie69 · 2023-12-24 08:57 Depending on your security and / or support needs, either Matrix or [WIRE](https://wire.com/en). The latter can also be set-up on-prem for free and is also used by European governments (you know.. Top Secret classified stuff) and other critical infrastructure operators (during my time in IT-consulting, i spent a fair bit on setting it up :D) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Annual-Advisor-7916 · 2023-12-24 14:24 Mattermost, Matrix for chat. For talking look at Mumble. Everything encrypted and open source.
