Terramaster just announced part of their 2024 NAS line-up reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheRealSilverStar · 2023-12-22 18:01 Finally, one of the 4 major NAS brands has announced the launch of a system with a 12th gen CPU. Both the F4-424 and F4-424 PRO will pack the N95 and N300 respectively. [F2-424 (N95)](https://www.terra-master.com/es/products/f2-735.html) (couldn't find it on the US site... but it is there in Europe) - 399€ (same as previous model) [F4-424 (N95)](https://shop.terra- master.com/products/terramastrer-f4-424-nas-4bay-intel-n95-n100-quad- core-cpu-8gb-ddr5-2-5gbe-lan-x-2-network-attached-storage-with-high- performance-diskless) (499 USD in the US and 549€ in Europe around +10% price increase) [F4-424 PRO (N300)](https://shop.terra- master.com/products/terramastrer-f4-424-pro-nas-storage-4bay- core-i3-8-core-8-thread-cpu-32gb-ddr5-ram-2-5gbe-lan-x-2-network- attached-storage-peak-performance-for-business-diskless) (699 USD in the US and 730€ in Europe - this model has no predecessor) Personally, I am very happy we are actually getting some new products that are not N5105 based, but I find it weird that they did not go with N100 which has more GPU power. Maybe they are leaving "a gap" on purpose? You can see the different characteristics of each CPU on the [Intel comparison table](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/com pare.html?productIds=231800,233090,231803,231806) Apart from the CPU the rest pretty much stayed the same as the previous models, such as: 1. 2 x additional M.2 slots 2. 2 x 2.5Gbit ethernet ports with link aggregation, so you can convert into 1x5Gbit ethernet. 3. Hdmi 2.1 out 4. TOS OS system 5. 2 years of warranty Now let's see if either QNAP or SYNOLOGY wake up at some point and do something similar (or better). I'm exited, as this will likely convince me to not buy a Topton mini PC and DAS combo. Finally, it's worth mentioning that the absolute Chad lords from [NAS COMPARES](https://nascompares.com/news/new-powerful- terramaster-f4-424-pro-f4-424-and-f2-424-nas-revealed/) already have a initial review up. Would love to hear your thoughts regarding this new launch! https://preview.redd.it/obbghaxawv7c1.png?width=285&format=png&auto=we bp&s=8df8694879014df0b2850a56738f743ef2ac37e3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- getgoingfast · 2023-12-22 18:14 What is there to not love about these NAS, 2.5G right off bat (Synology I'm looking at), plus the ability to install other OS like TrueNAS for ZFS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheRealSilverStar · 2023-12-22 18:20 True... Synlogy's biggest strong point is their software suite. Their CPUs used to be okay-ish, but times move on and I don't know what they were thinking when they completely moved to embedded R1600 chips. I get that ECC memory is a big plus point, but most self hosters need QuickSync. Also these CPUs (N95) will run circles around these older N5105 and J4125. It's worth mentioning that as far as I know, Terramaster has never voided a warranty for installing another system with their previous series. I am wondering if they will keep this up! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Docccc · 2023-12-22 18:21 TDP of a n100 is half that of the n95. Wonder why they chose the n95. is price that big of a difference? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheRealSilverStar · 2023-12-22 18:33 Intel's official site says 128 USD for a N100 which seems a bit excessiveRemember this is the bulk 1000 units price. I couldn't find the price for the N95 but at scale these things add up fast. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThrottlePeen · 2023-12-22 19:15 I bought an entire N100 NUC with a 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM and Windows 11 preinstalled for not much more than that 'official' price, so that's definitely not a price they would charge for bulk enterprise purchases. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EndlessHiway · 2023-12-22 20:00 What does this have to do with self-hosting? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyberwoof · 2023-12-22 21:00 The price? A mini PC with an N95 CPU and 16 GB of RAM goes for less than $200 on Amazon all the time. I find it hard to believe that a 2nd NIC and some hot-swap bays adds another $200. Also, comparing the F2 to the F4, the only change looks to be the number of hot-swap bays. There isn't a CPU or RAM increase to go with it. And it looks like the price increases $100-$120. It's the same feeling I get when phone makers charge $100+ to go from 128 to 256 GB of storage. It's reflective of not just the price people are willing to pay, but also a lack of competition to keep prices down. It might be a great choice compared to the alternatives, but it also still feels like a bad deal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- crusader-kenned · 2023-12-22 21:15 Nothing “one of the big four” just needed a place to post a totally real post and not a commercial.. 🤣 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FormerPassenger1558 · 2023-12-22 21:51 \>>Finally, one of the 4 major NAS brands You should just say that the 4th NAS brand blah blah...
