*kvm/ipmi or zigbee remote plug for Gigablue Linux sat receiver reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunray_0A · 2023-12-22 13:48 Hey all, I have a Gigablue 4k linux satellite tv receiver that only ever seems to need a hard reboot when I’m away from home. As it’s actually a PC, does anyone think Pikvm/ipmi or zigbee controlled plug socket would be best for the reboots? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- deeddy · 2023-12-22 14:22 Just go ahead with a cheap Zigbee plug socket. Pikvm is somewhat too expensive to be used as a tool for reseting other devices. If you have a Zigbee hub (could be a Home Assistant with a Zigbee adapter), you can do restarts remotely very easily. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunray_0A · 2023-12-22 14:40 OK thanks. I use HA, will get another plug 👍 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunray_0A · 2023-12-22 14:41 I want to put pikvm or IPMI on my Prox server ---------------------------------------------------------------------- springs87 · 2023-12-22 18:04 If its a Linux machine, do you have access to the command line? Could you setup a cron job to restart the machine overnight? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunray_0A · 2023-12-22 19:42 Hi, I could yes, I’ve got other boxes doing that. But that’s not the issue. So while I’m away I stream live TV to myself using the built in transcoder chip, which matches bandwidth to conditions (apparently). But it keeps locking up, and neither “reboot” nor “shutdown -r now” work. It hard locks up and only a power cycle will clear it. If I stream live at 4k the LTE gets overwhelmed, and constantly stops and buffers. Hence using the transcoder chip. 😎
