trying to host a jitsi meet instance but im locked by cgnat reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- External_Asparagus10 · 2023-12-22 09:49 i am trying to host it using a service like ngrok, but i already have an emby server made public from ngrok. are there any other alternatives to ngrok for my use case? my requirements are: 1. fixed url, im not interested in custom domains, i just do not want a url that is randomized everytime i restart my home server. 2. the ability to write a small script to start a tunnel from https localhost port 443 to that url. (note: i am not able to open any ports, so i am not even able to 'self-host' my instances by port forwarding. i require a service like ngrok.) i tried using zrok, but i am not able to link a localhost url to it because im able to only link a local folder index.html file to it, so if anyone knows a script to do that, itd be so helpful ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dovholuknf · 2023-12-22 11:00 zrok most definitely should have worked fine for you. I'm not understanding what problem you had and what you mean exactly. Http applications sometimes seem finicky because of how they work. What do you mean by "able to only link a local folder index.html file to it"? I assume you used a reserved share, but the app misbehaved in some way? (I am a dev on the OpenZiti project, but I use zrok a fair bit and have used zrok to expose stuff like this often) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- External_Asparagus10 · 2023-12-22 12:37 in ngrok the most general type of http command you can use is ngrok http i tried doing the same in zrok by the command ./zrok reserve public --backend-mode web [https://localhost:](https://localhost:8096)443 and then ./zrok share but it didnt work, im guessing its due to a wrong syntax but it did work when i entered ./zrok reserve public --backend-mode web , where it automatically opened the index.html file but it showed a blank screen, so that didnt work either. do you know how i can reserve localhost443? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dovholuknf · 2023-12-22 13:00 Gotcha. Don't use backend mode web in this case and instead just use zrok reserve public https://localhost:443. Backend mode web turns the zrok client into a webserver but you already have a webserver so you want to run in the default, proxy mode. I noticed https too, so beware you might need to add --insecure to that command. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- External_Asparagus10 · 2023-12-22 14:32 oh.my.god. it works. i literally have goosebumps rn thank you so much man you were such great help, the zrok docs were so vague for a beginner like me! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dovholuknf · 2023-12-22 14:44 Ayyyy, glad to hear it's working! Happy zrok-ing!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HorizonTGC · 2023-12-23 08:43 Take a look at this https://github.com/rapiz1/rathole All you need is a cheap vps and a domain pointing to it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- External_Asparagus10 · 2023-12-23 09:51 i know, i tried frp as well as rathole. they're great softwares. only problem is, im broke ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HorizonTGC · 2023-12-23 21:59 Or you can try cloudflare tunnel. It's free and handles HTTPS for you. You still need a domain name. But that can be as cheap as a few bucks PER YEAR. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- External_Asparagus10 · 2023-12-26 03:27 me is very broke brudda
