Solution for family photo backup reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigMasterpiece1757 · 2023-12-22 09:20 hello, wife and kids are upset to always have their phones full of photos\\videos. And I'm too as I have to manually move these to my NAS regularly(I'm currently using Syno Photos on it). What would be the best selfhosted solution to have everyone having an application(apple and android) automatically uploading their media to my NAS? NextCloud? Immich? Syno Photos? Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jonteponte71 · 2023-12-22 09:49 I don’t get it. You are all already using Synology Photos but am asking if there is some other solution to do the same thing? Enable multiuser on your NAS if you haven’t done it and let your family members use the Photos app to offload from their phones to Synology Photos. Then connect a usb hd to the NAS and back all of up with hyperbackup? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigMasterpiece1757 · 2023-12-22 09:55 >t it. You are all already using Synology Photos but am asking if there is some other solution to do the same thin I'm not using it for backup\\upload. I will consider that but was thinking it might not be efficient enough and might not allow to isolate user. thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-12-22 10:34 Use immich :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigMasterpiece1757 · 2023-12-22 13:09 will give a try first to synology photos also for media upload. If not adopted by family Immich lookc to be a good option ---------------------------------------------------------------------- harlekintiger · 2023-12-22 13:18 Nextcloud? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zezimeme · 2023-12-22 16:05 You mean you don’t want users to see each others pictures? Like using different accounts? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jonteponte71 · 2023-12-22 16:53 Ok. As I said. DSM has a feature where you can activate home folders for users to separate their content from eachother. This works with Photos as well. So everyone can have their own private photos backed up. Or in shared albums as well in needed. You as an admin can of course see it all if you want, but that is true for all similar solutions. All of this is documented on the Synology site. You don’t even have to open up the NAS externally since the app will connect to the wifi and backup any new photos as soon as you are home. But I would add a backup solution as well. As RAID is not backup. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dazchad · 2023-12-22 21:41 Might not be feasible due to way Apple handle accounts, but some people sync their photos/icloud on a mac/mac mini/etc, and then sync those folders to the NAS. Apple really should open up an API for the iCloud, but obviously want to keep the garden walled.
