Zoneminder or Firgate in your recent experience? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Imaginary_Access6150 · 2023-12-22 07:38 **Background:** I currently have an old 16ch Provison NVR with 10 IP cameras, some Provsion, some Dahua, all have ONVIF. My NVR is old, slow, and has gotten to the point where I need to boot a Windows 7 VM every time I want to pretend to look at footage, (I say pretend because that process is a nightmare and often futile). I do some self hosting, and am starting to get very immersed in Home Assistant, so I am considering self-hosting my NVR, or buying a new Reolink NVR (which won't be soon, I have to save). **Hardware Available:** I have a Proxmox machine with a Ryzen 5 3600 (6/12) and 48GB RAM (2x8GB + 2x 16GB). I currently hosts my NAS (Ubuntu Server), Unifi controller, Jellyfin, Home Assistant, and some Docker bits (I don't like/understand Docker, it's a last resort). I do not have any CPU cores dedicated, and my CPU idles below 2%, with 10% being the highest I've seen. RAM Usage is about 70%, I can still upgrade. No GPU, pass through is also not an option with this board since the PCI is tied to the NICs. In addition I have an unused Dell Mini PC (OptiPlex 3000) i3 (I think 9th gen), currently with 4GB RAM, but can upgrade if needed. **Question:** What is your personal experience with ZoneMinder or Frigate in the last year, and what hardware do you use? In the ZoneMinder docs I see i3 and i5 are not recommended, but in some of the forums I've read that this is outdated info due to how old i3 and i5 handles core counts. Do you have experience for or against this? I've read that Frigate sometimes has recording issues and many are talking about a Coral USB add-on you need to buy, any experience in this regard? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tr0lcho_420 · 2023-12-22 14:10 i host frigate on my unraid server with an i3-9100 (no coral,1 camera) and so far it's been pretty okay. Coral is recommended tho
