Temperature Data reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mvivm · 2023-12-21 16:10 Hi everyone, I have a Raspberry Pi Pico W with a DHT11 temperature and humidity sensor. I want to make a temperature storage for the whole 2024 but I don’t know how to save a year of data. What service can I use? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcadianarcadian · 2023-12-21 16:26 Python + Influxdb (+ Grafana) read the sensor output with python, and write into influxdb. If you don't want visualization omit the Grafana part. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mvivm · 2023-12-21 16:38 But I need an external server? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- root-node · 2023-12-21 16:39 How are you logging the data? The simplest way is to just suck that data into a spreadsheet application and graph it. The hardest way is to build a workflow and import it into Grafana and the such. You have to ask yourself, do you really need a years worth of data? How much effort are you will to put into gathering it. I use Node-RED for all my temperature probes, but only view 7 days worth and even then I don't really care too much about it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mvivm · 2023-12-21 16:49 For testing I used IFTTT and google sheet, and for check temperature once an hour for a month is fine but every month I need to change sheet because it can only have ~1000 line. For the things that I have to do is enough but I also asked online if there is another solution. I saw that is probably the best one ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mvivm · 2023-12-21 16:51 It’s not a critical situation that I need to monitor temperature data, it’s only a project for learn about IoT and data management ---------------------------------------------------------------------- root-node · 2023-12-21 17:14 Ah fair enough. With the question: "Can I log data?" the answer is always yes. It's just on a scale between: "writing it down" and "multiple servers with databases" :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IceOleg · 2023-12-21 20:50 A simple csv file will work for logging with a reasonable interval. Logging once a minute makes 60*24*365 = 525600 records. 16 bytes for date+time, 5 bytes each temp + humidity, field separators... lets say 30 bytes a record. That makes 15.8 MB of data, no issue at all.
