Does Jellyfin portable has a virus? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ggRavingGamer · 2023-12-21 11:40 https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/2c9096c0dcffd38610a3a1d862610b38b8 6a8e8195475ad608e973033c4e10d5 This is the virustotal link. 5/62 Maybe it's a false positive? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-12-21 11:58 i would ask this on the official jellyfin forum. *if* it's true they would probably want to know about it, if they don't already ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrkesu · 2023-12-21 12:34 r/jellyfin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rbatersi · 2023-12-21 12:38 The sub is read only now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- borjazombi · 2023-12-21 12:42 Where did you download that file? Because the official Jellyfin website only lists .tar.gz files, not .zip files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrkesu · 2023-12-21 12:42 Ah ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ggRavingGamer · 2023-12-21 12:47 https://repo.jellyfin.org/releases/server/windows/stable/ combined/jellyfin_10.8.13.zip application/zip 133743179 Tue, 28 Nov 2023 23:01:42 -0500 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CheesecakeNo7 · 2023-12-21 13:03 I would say it's a false positive, pretty common with software like Jellyfin that does a lot of interactions with the file system and the network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- borjazombi · 2023-12-21 13:03 Ah, I was looking at [https://repo.jellyfin.org/releases/server/portab le/stable/](https://repo.jellyfin.org/releases/server/portable/stable/ ) It's most likely a false positive, due to some system .dll inside the zip, but check with the guys at r/jellyfin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Conscious-Fault-8800 · 2023-12-21 13:26 Very probably false positive. I have never heard about these 5 security vendors that give a warning report. And the Antivirus companies that i know and are reputable all report green checkmarks. Also, 2 of the 5 warnings seem to be about NSSM, which is a service manager for Windows, allowing jellyfin to be easily run as a windows service. There \*might\* be malwares that also use NSSM, but usage of NSSM is far from a security threat on its own. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nitsky416 · 2023-12-21 13:34 And literally says go use the forums ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kitanokikori · 2023-12-21 14:03 It looks like Jellyfin uses NSSM (https://nssm.cc), which is not a virus, but enough viruses / malware have started to use it that virus scanners are picking it up. It should be fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bombero_kmn · 2023-12-21 16:04 For reference, that sub is read only and the jellyfin forum is the new medium for communicating. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- borjazombi · 2023-12-21 16:06 oops, thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- emprahsFury · 2023-12-21 17:42 So is this what we want on the sub? Jellyfin is self histed software, but it seems the people of r/self-hosted want to send legit questions off on a goose chase? We're really just a glorified telephone switch if all we do is post a link to another sub (which itself was set read by by the devs and requires another hop off Reddit) Why are we here if not to answer these questions? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- djgizmo · 2023-12-22 05:19 Because sometimes the best answer is from the source.
