Spreadsheet driven reminder app? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nuttervm · 2023-12-20 13:33 Hi All, I'm looking for a self-hosted app that takes input from an online collaborative spreadsheet (preferably google sheets) and uses one of the columns in the spreadsheet to determine the date and time of a reminder, and pops up the reminder in google chrome. Does something like this exist? This is intended to assist my son in tracking school assignments, due date reminders, etc. The school uses Chromebooks that are pretty locked down, so I don't have any ability to install an agent or other software. Since we're talking Chromebook, Google-maintained or self- hosted and web based functionality is a must. Simplicity of workflow is very important too and I view a collaborative spreadsheet as very easy for my son to populate and maintain with a little bit over oversight and assistance from my wife and I. In my research so far, most of the google chrome Extension UIs for reminders are a bit labor intensive (too many clicks, too many data fields to populate to be user friendly by a kid). I'm not even sure I can use Extensions on a locked down Chromebook. Bonus points for something that works on iPhones as well. I don't mind cobbling something together but thought I'd ask first. I was thinking something like nocodb or baserow publishing iCal entries to a google calendar maybe? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- root-node · 2023-12-20 15:11 If you are already using google products, instead of using a spreadsheet, why not just add them directly into a google calendar? Using a spreadsheet is just an extra step that is not needed. The calendar should then be able to send them alerts and reminders as required. If you have to use the spreadsheet, then things are a bit harder. Personally I use Node-RED for all my automation, and it could work in this instance. Using a [google sheets node](https://flows.nodered.org/node/node-red- contrib-google-sheets) you could grab the data, process it and send alerts to their phone with PushOver or other alerting method.
