i need help with an cpu upgrade reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Schuhsohle · 2023-12-20 09:18 Hi all. I am currently running an Unraid server with an Gigabyte B365M DS3H Motherboard and an Intel I5-8400 CPU with 32GB Ram. I use it for several docker container (>20) and one or two vms so far. I want to look a little more into vms and i think that i need to upgrade my cpu but i am not so into hardware. So to what cpu can i easily upgrade without changing the motherboard as well?? Or should i also see to upgrade my motherboard as well?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BlitzYTech · 2023-12-20 10:35 Your i5-8400 has a LGA1151 socket. This means that the best upgrade you can do is a i9-9900K (technically up to double performance increase according to [cpubenchmark.net](https://www.cpubenchmark.net/ compare/Intel-i9-9900K-vs-Intel-i7-9700K-vs- Intel-i5-8400/3334vs3335vs3097)). Beware that the 9900k has a TDP of 95W (vs 65W). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-20 17:08 ## Post Removed Hey, Schuhsohle!
