Request: Synchronization/backup between two places

Hi there,

my dad and I life in different cities. He has some data, and I have
some data which we want to backup at the location of the other person.
So in case something happen, the data is still there but on the device
of the other person. I know there cloud services we're we could backup
our files, but we want to do it on the device of the other person.

Is there any tool for this you could recommend? We booth using DIY-
NAS-Systems with a RAID and the possibility to deploy docker
containers.

A good option would be to use [Syncthing](https://syncthing.net/) for
that.

Or just plain old rsync.

Synchronization is not backup.

The only service that can be called as a cloud backup - only that one
that supports append only mode and versioning. Otherwise - **it isn't
backup**

At other's person place - Synchting in receive only mode with turned
versioning.

At your and dad's place syncthing in send only mode to other's person
place.

At other person's place backup folder that shared between you and your
dad with something like kopia, restic or borg backup to external
device... just in case primary storage of other's person get failed.

According to your requirement, this schema don't apply sync between
you and dad, but only accumulates both of your data at other's person
place

What I meant with syncronization was that If he adds a photo to a
directory that photo should be synced to the backup at my place.


I will have a look at kopia, restic and borg (as already mentioned by
u/entrotec).

Then use "send/receive" mode on both places, - yours and dad's and
"receive only" on other's person place.
