I don't see anyone mentioning "The Epube" as a self-hosted solution for Calibre libraries reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Acceptable-Jump-8332 · 2023-12-19 09:06 Link to the source code of [The Epube](https://gitlab.tt- rss.org/main/the-epube/-/wikis/home). I don't see it being mentioned at all. Calibre-web is usually the solution which is recommended here. I checked out the demo for the epube and it looks pretty solid, to the point where it performs better than Calibre-web when it comes to formatting. Does the project have any red-flags? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- murtoz · 2023-12-19 10:42 >Does the project have any red-flags? The name. Who wants an electronic pube? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CrispyBegs · 2023-12-19 11:15 'epube' lol. who thought that was a good idea? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mikkel1156 · 2023-12-19 11:56 Havent heard of this either, I keep track of projects like this through stars on GitHub sadly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JAP42 · 2023-12-19 12:43 Came here to say this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kgri65 · 2023-12-19 13:20 I personally moved on from Calibre/Calibre-web to [AudioBookshelf](https://www.audiobookshelf.org/). I also have Kavita running for eBooks but the latest AudioBookshelf versions are handling eBooks better. This allows me to read the eBooks while listening to the audiobooks. I find the UI of the AudioBookshelf and Kavita more modern and much more responsive than Calibre/Calibre-web . There are iOS apps also. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Acceptable-Jump-8332 · 2023-12-19 13:37 Thanks. I didn't realise audiobookshelf does ebooks as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Robo_Joe · 2023-12-19 13:42 >This allows me to read the eBooks while listening to the audiobooks. You're manually keeping them in sync, right? Like, if you were to listen to the audiobook version without reading along, you'd have to skip forward on the epub version to catch it back up? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kgri65 · 2023-12-19 14:16 That's right. Both audiobooks and ebooks sync across devices but do not sync with each other (at least as of the last time I checked). I would love to have that feature, but jumping forward on my ebook isn't that much of a hassle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- __aurvandel__ · 2023-12-19 14:33 I just checked the audiobookshelf webpage and I think I'll have to start using it on principle. I love the selection of books they have as the background. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YYCwhatyoudidthere · 2023-12-19 15:50 Sounds like a vape abomination. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dragonskullinc · 2023-12-19 17:32 It does comics and manga too! It's really evolved over the years. I was able to replace almost all of my individual apps with it. I still use Calibre for meta data and such but all consumption is done with Audiobookshelf. It's not perfect but if checks so many boxes. It's quite hard not to recommend. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CosineTau · 2023-12-19 17:44 If it did in-line notes, a much missed feature of calibre, I wouldn't care what it is called, and would say it's name every chance I got if only, if only... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ArmourArsenal · 2023-12-19 18:48 Came here to see this ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluffer_Wuffer · 2023-12-19 19:09 Imagine getting that stuck in your teeth... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Midnight_Rising · 2023-12-19 19:34 Reminds me of the game library app called "Crackpipe" that eventually renamed itself because, really, if you choose a stupid name for your service no one is going to care. There's a *lot* that goes into picking the right name. And this shit is what happens when it's not taken seriously. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shiftyduck86 · 2023-12-19 20:00 It's always in discussion on discord, but it seems very hard to do accurately without doing text-to-speach or speach-to text analysis. The easiest would be just matching the % but it would often be so far out that it's better for people to just match their own. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- seniledude · 2023-12-19 20:46 I am seeing this and reminded of the “pms” shirts on that episode of big bang theory ---------------------------------------------------------------------- splice42 · 2023-12-19 20:51 Yep, childish name like that means I ain't remotely interested in it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- esturniolo · 2023-12-19 22:23 I just came here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nemec · 2023-12-20 04:28 [cockroachdb](https://www.cockroachlabs.com/product/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 8layer8 · 2023-12-20 06:30 jellyfin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DistantRefaktor · 2023-12-20 20:34 > more modern If you are afraid of text and want to click on picture I guess.
