$60 Mini PC into a Synology NAS reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vampire_Duchess · 2023-12-19 04:36 Protip for your NAS build: ditch the basic OS and go full Proxmox! Grab a chonky M.2 SSD for speed and a beastly 2.5" HDD for all your storage that you can get. NAS-wise, TrueNAS (Scale or Core) rocks – reliable, powerful, and built for hoarding like a champ. Or, if you're a Debian fan, go DIY with Samba in a VM – just skip OpenMediaVault, heard it's a one-man show. I prefer native DIY Samba with Apple support. Docker? DietPi VM is your jam – lightweight and container-crazy. Pihole/AdGuardHome in an LXC container? Adblock your entire network's dreams! So you got security and privacy. Use HaGeZi adblock lists, Plex/Emby living rent-free? Spin up another Debian VM and stream like a boss. The only limit is that you have 8 gb ram :/ Remember, backups are your best buds use 3-2-1, and don't forget to tweak your network for smooth access. Easy-peasy! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fed-Poster-1337 · 2023-12-19 06:32 um yeah it's going to take a lot of work to set it all up. that's the tradeoff of building your own NAS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nik_h_75 · 2023-12-19 13:06 Just want to give some support for OMV. Been using it for years - and the community seems alive. I'm no expert in NAS software options - but proxmox+VM running Debian+OMV is rock solid and takes very little resources. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ItsPwn · 2023-12-19 21:24 use this boot loader (flash the .img to usb stick and boot it - if not virtualizing) * [https://github.com/AuxXxilium/arc/releases](https://github.com/AuxX xilium/arc/releases) * subreddit /r/xpenology * If you need help ask ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IllegalD · 2023-12-26 02:47 I'm an OMV fan, I miss the old webui though
