Please help reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Armshock_182 · 2023-12-18 20:01 I've looked all over online and reddit, and can't get a straight answer at all. I have nginx, Windows, and a Synology NAS running Jellyfin, and I have Spectrum as my ISP. Im trying to configure a reverse proxy before I port forward it, so that my friends and family can have access to my server. Firstly, how do I make the reverse proxy in nginx? Every tutorial I've seen has a different way of doing things. Secondly, I think I know how to port forward my router, but I'm confused as to what numbers go where. Any help would be appreciated, but what would not be appreciated is some uppity dork italicizing some lame comment like "wow, really?" Thank you all in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-12-18 20:35 1 step: know IP of your Nginx Proxy Mannager, write down 2 Step: go to your router, port 80 and 443 to the IP that you wrote down 3 step: point your domain to your public IP (ISP public ip) if you don’t know, google “ who is my ip” 4 step: open browser and type your domain, you should have the welcome page. 5 step, write down IPs and Porta for your services, like Jellyfin, etc, write it down 6 step: in Nginx proxy mannager, start add domains, sub domain, etc configured with your local IPs and ports that you wrote down previously. Don’t forget always get ssl from Let’s encrypt, it’s free and secure on Nginx Proxy Manager. That’s it ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Armshock_182 · 2023-12-18 20:39 I unfortunately have no idea what that means, could you dumb it down for me? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-12-18 20:45 Ok, forget everything. Check this, it’s all on you nas. https://www.wundertech.net/synology-reverse-proxy-setup-config/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Armshock_182 · 2023-12-18 21:44 I did all steps and I got to make the certificate. It reads "Let's Encrypt is unable to validate this domain name. Please make sure your Synology NAS and router have port 80 open to Let's Encrypt domain validation from the internet. All other communications with Let's Encrypt go over https to keep your Synology NAS secure". I'm pretty sure I port forwarded my router and my nas, idk why Let's Encrypt needs its own special port forward. What do I do now ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-12-18 21:46 Is your domain have an A record with your public IP (if you don’t know, google what’s my IP) Then port forward to the NAS IP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Armshock_182 · 2023-12-18 21:59 Try rewording that, I'm not sure you know what you're talking about ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-12-18 22:06 To have ssl by Let’s encrypt, let’s encrypt make a challenge to generate ssl sha, meaning your domain must be pointed to your Synology web server by port 80 and 443 to communicate with let’s encrypt. One quick test, just open your browser and type your domain, and tell me what you see? Note: at this point I expect you already have a domain, right? You have free domain ex duckdns or no-ip.com. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Armshock_182 · 2023-12-18 22:15 I'm trying to port forward on spectrums app. They are asking for an internal and external port. Which is which between 80 and 443? And yes I made a domain name with noip, and it says 403 forbidden nginx when I type it in ---------------------------------------------------------------------- habskilla · 2023-12-19 11:56 @dotinho if I had gold, I’d give you some.
