Self-host alternative to Docker Hub? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nathan12581 · 2023-12-18 16:22 I've successfully self-hosted everything until I realised I'm getting billed £6 a month by Docker to allow me to automatically build images based on pushed code to GitHub. I'd like to have a self-hosted version of Docker Hub which allows me to automatically build images when code is pushed to GitHub, view the progress of the build/logs, host the image privately, be able to pull the image down via portainer. I have seen Harbor but - correct me if I'm wrong - I do not think it automatically builds images based on GitHub webhooks? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sami_testarossa · 2023-12-18 16:29 Github Action. I’d like a system (which is what I do on Docker Hub) where I select a GitHub account and repository to use to create an image out of. I know I’m being picky - however if I’m going to replace Docker Hub - I want to do it right. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sami_testarossa · 2023-12-18 16:37 Org Webhooks. Also, r/devops would like to hear more about why CI/CD not being a system... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nathan12581 · 2023-12-18 16:40 Never said CI/CD isn’t a system did I lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Velyn_ · 2023-12-18 17:25 How about a self hosted Docker Registry (the image is called registry) and a Build Server like Jenkins? Getting Jenkins to run in a Docker Container itself needs the Jenkins and a DinD (Docker in Docker) Container. You will need to read a little into it, but it is possible. I did that some time ago but I switched to GH Actions by now. No need to maintain a Build Server and if my server breaks the builds could run immediately after getting the registry back up. So this is definitely my recommendation. Just as a side note: I think Sonatype Nexus has a Docker Registry too but I didn't come around to try that yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nathan12581 · 2023-12-18 17:28 That’s a really good idea actually thank you. I have used ‘registry’ in the past just obviously didn’t have the build part to the pipeline. I’ll have a look at both! Thank you!
