Storage Questions - At a crossroads reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnfriendlyCanuck · 2023-12-18 14:26 I've been migrating off tower PCs to smaller UFF PCs which has been great from a power/space perspective. The last thing I'm working on is what to do for storage. I'd like to move my Plex server to a docker container but obviously I need a lot more storage than a UFF can accommodate. I had a couple of ideas: * Turn the Windows Plex PC, which houses all the drives, into *something* else. Not sure what that something could be? TrueNAS? Install Ubuntu on the box, use Plex as a container with the existing drives and present the drives to the network via NFS/SMB for other PCs? * Get a USB enclosure and attach it to one of the UFF PCs and do the same as above * Bit the bullet and get a NAS of some kind I don't really want to raid the disks together. I'm not storing anything super important, and any docker data I'll back up off site. What is the community doing for this? What is the latest and greatest thats out there or something I've been missing? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DasGloi · 2023-12-18 15:25 If you already have a PC, i would turn it into a proxmox ve or unraid mashine, with all the storage. Presenting the storage internally to a plex Container on proxmox or Something similar on unraid, i dont have much expirience with that. Thats my 2cents. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Square_Lawfulness_33 · 2023-12-19 00:16 I connected a four bay DAS to a 4x4 mini PC, type-c connection. Also, to save time I'm using samba in a docker container which cuts down on the config process. My setup is mergerfs + snapraid with all services running in a docker container and the containers are managed by dockge, witch is a stack manager that saves compose files to actual text files.
